2012 Triumph Rocket 3 Roadster
I had a meeting with the higher ups at work today, so I take off on the Roadster, I'm riding for about two miles and I look at my left foot, and it's covered in oil! Oil is spewing out, so I turn around and park at the commissary on base, oil light never came on. On the walk back home I find the oil cap, very fortunate. The lesson is, never add oil to the tank when cold. Luckily, no harm no foul.

LOL...I can picture you walking down the road...one leg covered in oil...cursing yourself. Not laughing at you brother...laughing with you. I've pulled enough boneheaded stuff in my day that I have to find humor in most things. I even found a way to laugh when I jerked the rear end out from under a pickup truck trying to pull a friend out of the mud. Lesson I learned was to hook up your own chains!!

I've never had to add oil on my 06..and always check when engine is warm, sitting up straight, not on sidestand..from the manual.....

1. Allow the engine to idle for one minute, then stop
the engine.
2. Remove the filler cap/dipstick from the oil tank,
wipe the dipstick clean and refit the filler cap,
pushing it fully home.

you might want to keep a close eye on that. i think that tank must have a vent or a vent tube so that when the oil gets hot the air in the top of the tank expands it wont blow the stick out.
i dont have my r3 here to check. the vent might be in the cap itself i don't know. am sure some one on here can tell you. herman

Same thing canhappen when you go to triple filter and use the little filter on the crank case vent. no clean means back pressure and off blows the oil cap. Yhis can even be messier if you run high boost. Do not als me why I know but I have walked many od=f roads and bought more oil caps then I have found :D

Just fill the bloody thing with high moly axle grease.

Scott - Not thought of a "Y" spring and chain so it cant go extra-terrestrial?
