I would never ride on a tire with steel showing....just not worth it. I normally change my tires before they get to the min wear bars. A tire that is so worn (even before the steel shows) has much worse performance in the rain etc than one with enough tread to funnel the water away.

Well no dealers open on easter long weekend it seems...nearest car tyre that can be fitted is almost halfway home so I might take my chances - I'll see how it looks at the halfway mark.

Shame there's not a 160km long left hand sweeper to get me home, plenty of meat left on that side!

thats really getting your money"s, worth out of that tyre, but i don't think i'll try it.

I've been caught out when travelling a few times .. like I said not ideal but it happens. Guess I've just been lucky. Ride into Melbourne with Richard on the way to Tassie last year was ***cin hairy. Last bit of tread scrubbed out really really quick, sure I'd get to Melbourne .. and I did .. just

Now if my memory serves me correctly you didn't ride into Melbourne....wasnt it skating???

If you are reading this then clearly I'm not dead. Barely worn an inch more than when I left this morning. Took it easy 105kph behind a 4x4 the whole way, even stopped to help a youngster on 250 clean his fuel filter and get going again after flattening his battery. Can't say I'd like to do it again but didn't notice any differenceon the road. Also ECU reckons 468km from a tank at the above speed! Who knew eh...ha ha ha

They do go "off" quickly once you get down past the wear bars , sort of sneak up on you!,for our US friends notice how the right side of the tyre is worn more than the left ,this is because of the camber on our roads I would imagine it would be the opposite on the US, just a snippet of useless information, but you wouldn't believe the number of blokes reckon its because they corner harder on right hand bends than left hand bends and that's why the tyre wears like that!

Glad to hear all went well. Certainly not the worst bald patch I've seen. Biggest worry would be if it was wet. I was amazed that TC was able to do that ride into Melbourne. Water was an inch or 2 over the road on the good bits. Add tram tracks and almost no visibility and you have some real excitement. Bloody good effort if you ask me.

You're right Ken, it is mainly the camber. But it's also a fact that we travel about double the distance through a right hand corner than through a left hander. It's not harder cornering to the right, just more time/greater distance over on the RH edge than the left. The camber is also exaggerated through a right hand corner; the opposite happens through a left hander. I'm not saying this is the major cause of the wear on the right, but it adds to the effect of the camber.

When you get a chance Come on Down ,good Weather (mostly) good Beer (Always) great beaches ,and lots of open Road where you can still stretch the legs on a Rocket if you know where and when.
It's not all bad the Police are not all bad and we have some Wonderful Police detectives who have solved some horrific crimes over the years ,too morbid to go into details ,there are Police officers in my Family(too close to home for details )and they and their Colleagues are just ordinary knock about Aussies ,who are doing a job , however! there are some who are a disgrace to the Uniform and forget their manners and have preconceived ideas and are prejudicial in dealing with people who they conceive as offenders even for minor matters, but that is he same the world over.
