Is the USB adapter specifically an OTG adapter? They're different than a USB to micro-usb converter. An OTG adapter makes your device able to be a USB "host" so you can plug stuff into it, usually the device is only a USB "client" that you plug into other things, like a PC for file transfer.

You sure managed to have all the issues you can have doing this, didn't you?

I've never tried using an Android device to flash the ECU but it's supposed to be doable. So I have to suspect the adapter or the cable at this point.

I just plugged the cable into each usb port on my laptop and for each tuneecu said the connection. was through com4. So it must be usung the driver to configure a virtual com port. Unless your laptop has some conflicts, which I would expect from Windows 8, getting the cable configured shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't been able to connect to tuneecu with the cable in android either. I've got a lonelec cable and otg adapter. I think my android devices aren't otg capable or the function has been blocked on it.

Oh yeah, there's that potential issue also, not all Androids support OTG. Usually the flagships all do... but not everyone spends crazy money on their phones.

So the OTG Helper says it detects the USB device connected to my Samsung Galaxy S5.

What cable and adapter are recommended ?

Ah, yeah, the S5 has OTG support, so that's not the problem.

But yeah, the Lonelec cable should be a pretty sure bet. I have no idea what the cable you got with the other setup is like, but the cable has to be specifically one with an FTDi chipset, and one known good one is the Lonelec cable.

In fact you may get the Lonelec cable to play nice with your PC also which leaves you with choices on which to use.

Still, that bluetooth adapter might come in handy still if you feel nerdy and want to watch what your bike is up to on the road, just get that phone holder for the handlebars and you can watch data in real time...

So, the Lon-elec cable just arrived from England, and I plugged it in my laptop, and it was instantly recognized by the computer and TuneECU. Attached the cable to the OBD-II port, and quickly established communication.

I "read" (TuneECU parlance for copying the map that is on the ECU already) that map.

I exited TuneECU and restarted to start with @HansO 's tune (I couldn't readily figure out how to tell ECU "I want *that* map to go now), and am in the process of downloading (TuneECU parlance for putting the map in the PC onto the ECU) that.

While the bike is down (wouldn't have to be -- but it is -- have to take off the seat to get to the fuse box), I'm installing Rivo lighted mirrors (by they way, they are smaller than the stock mirrors so one is giving up something there), and what GREAT timing I will be installing a tachometer thanks to the work and post of @Bedifferent , and heck, a Harley Davidson eCommerce catalog chrome thermometer, and also from @Bedifferent the GiPro DS gear indicator.

Smaller mirrors than the postage stamps that are stock mirrors? I'm surprised, the ugly round ones that stick out half a mile that were on mine stock were tiny. I just got some Kuryakyn Magnum Large mirrors for mine, much shorter stems and bigger glass, works great on the Touring and look just the right size. No built-in indicators though...

Yeah, TuneECU's terminology is "ECU-centric". The ECU "downloads" from the PC. To me it would have felt more natural to think that the PC "uploads" to the ECU, but whatever works. Glad you got an appropriate cable and got it done.

OK, I finally got around to try to load a tune that Clagiver sent me that should be very close to my setup, just a little different air cleaner. Sad to say I have yet to get out on my bike since I installed new exhaust and Air cleaner. Anyway. I hooked up a tablet that I downloaded TUNE ECU on and hooked cable up plugged it into tablet and it connected up without any issue. The problem that I am having is that there is no tab under "ECU" that is labeled "DOWNLOAD" The only thing that I see under the ECU tab are "Connect, Read Map, Reprogram, Information, and Datalog. I hit the reprogram tab and it went through the process, I also hit the read map tab and it went through that process without any issues, but nowhere do I see a download choice.Does anyone have any suggestions or advice??? Let me know. Thanks! Ron

Reprogram is the command in android app - there is no "download"

Note also regarding bluetooth that you cannot read or reprogram via bluetooth - hardwire cable must be used
