I want to get rid of the standard air filter arrangement as it simply sucks in dust from behind the rider. Yes, I will do Tuneboy ,pipes and maybe secondaries removal in the future, but not right now. I am wondering how much alterations if any, need to be made to the tune of the motor if you were to simply install K&N’s pods straight on to a completely stock motor with stock pipes? Also, are there any other models of K&N air pods that provide the same performance that fit under the bearclaw without having to fool around with the b/claw fitment on the bike?I have looked over the 'how to' section and couldnt find anything that didnt involve removing secondaries as well and assuming you have non stock pipes.

Before fitting triple k&n's it would be better if the exhaust was freed up first, the old adage of getting the gasses out faster allowing more air and fuel to be introduced, removing and fitting a cat bypass would be the first mod, followed by three K&n's, the RU-2780's are a tight squeeze but they make it.The bearclaw can be fitted without cutting by simply angling the back filter to the two o'clock position, you can also pack out the bearclaw slightly by placing a washer behind the top locating bracket. You dont have to remove the secondaries if you dont want..... Miami Dave has a how to, do a search if you need any more help.

Thanks R34ME,
I am up for a new filter, so i thought it would make more sense to change to K&N'S.On a performance issue i totally agree with you and I have a three into one system in mind for the future, but at the moment I am broke.Having the air filtration mounted where the K&N sits makes more sense to me for less dust.I am guessing you dont have to start changing engine tunes till you change the pipes.
NZ eh?I reckon we have roads similar to each other .I often find Mainland Australian roads rather boring being often too straight, though there are some fabulous exceptions , like the ALpine Highway going thru Thredbo up to Canberrra & others..Maybe one day i will see about freighting the ol' 'hippo' over to NZ for a tour

You would be more than welcome to stay with us here if you ever venture across the ditch, I am heading over to Phillip island in October for the motogp, just make sure you turn that heater in the sky on for us eh?
