Triumph Bobber Has Arrived

Phil is so right. He nailed it, but todays manufacturers are marketing experts. The bikes will sell and those that buy them will have d-mn near the same pride as those that designed and built them themselves. The marketers stole the name and the people could care less. They will make the payments and feel cool. It will be a good bike but just another mass produced fake, like a new 32 FORD replica or a new INDIAN CHIEF replica. It won't hold a candle to the new Bonnies with functional suspension or some of the other Triumph models but it oozes COOL to the masses and the other models don't do that. We live in a different world today then when I used to build Bobbers. Today bikers have money, and today everyone wants stuff right now, the marketers know it and satisfy it.
The BOB JOB is a cool factory custom and a lot better than the sloppy home built junkers and it has very nice suspension and a liquid cooled 1200cc engine that makes it a bad azz and a great engine to modify to torture all those BIG PIG V TWINS double the power and half the weight its a winner

You evidently think that all bobbers are or were "home built junkers" and only a factory can build good stuff. Whats so nice about "it has a very nice suspension" its main purpose is to look like a rigid frame but it moves little. Was a "SPRUNG HUB" also a very nice suspension. A great engine doesn't need to be modified, a great engine is already powerful enough, thats why its called a great engine. **** near anything can beat the "PIG V TWINS" but they are used to losing races to all but other V TWINS so I doubt that they will feel tortured. Some of the fastest bikes in the world on the drag strip are V TWINS so maybe they are great engines. It will probably be a winner as far as sales go because of a vision the buyer has of himself on it, not because of its merits, good or bad.

It may be a big hit in europe Not so much here in the middle of America. In the last eleven years I have seen two Rockets and one bonneville on the road. Even if it could out run a sportie, the vast majority of individuals interested in this style of bike will require the status of owning a Harley. They do not care about performance. It is more the image than anything else. Truimph tried to go after the Harley crowd with the thunderbird which failed. Now they are pushing basically entry-level bikes to prospective buyers of the cool crowd. No price on the Bobber but it will be rather expensive. If it runs about the price of a sportie then am afraid Truimph will be very disappointed. Did a lot of homework on what persuades buyers and quickly gave up on the idea of investing in a Truimph dealership. I like the bike but given the limited prospective buyers and the reputation and image of harley davidson it is going to be a uphill battle for Truimph.

LIKE I said most of the bobbers are not well done there are some that are nice and the TRIUMPH has a very nice setup you can keep your SPRUNG HUB for your bikes that have no rear suspension
and the stock triumph engine has more power than the VTWIN PIGS the TRIUMPH has the new 1200cc liquid cooled powerplant and is a winner because of its merits even stock and will make big HP when modified to make it a potent giant killer like I said twice the HP and half the weight can you imagine a bobber beating your your BIG BAD V8 powered RIGID framed cool looking CUSTOM CHOPPER WOW embarassing LOL

who cares about HP when choosing the bobber? It is just the sub genre of chopper. All the purpose is to look cool its own way. + not all V twins are lame 65 hp "transalp power".. which btw I would consider completely fine for the bobber, if it comes from proper displacement & cool looking engine.

I checked the Hitchhikers guide to motorcycle design. What it says about The Magic Formula:
"Great bike should be able to fulfill 4 basic things:
i) accelerating fast
ii) brake well
iii) corner good
and
iiii) look cool."

On choppers, bobbers, customs and any hipster toys, only iiii) really is required. Don´t panic.

WE care about HP and all those V TWIN owners are spending thousands of $ trying to make HP LOL

IMFASTTO, you got to have GOOD IMAGINATION if you think any of the Triumphs would beat the V8 Chopper. The SPRUNG HUB I mentioned only because it was a lousy suspension just like the Bobber Triumph is likely to be. I had a sprung hub on a bobber I built in the fifties. The new Triumph Bobber suspension is like a SOFTAIL HARLEY that you're so fond of. There is nothing wrong with the 1200cc power plant, its good but its 1200cc about 74 cu inches. It is great in the Bonnie. I think TRIUMPH will sell many more of them than the ROCKET because its easier to buy than to build that type of bike. Once there are lots of them the COOL factor diminishes and you just have another one of many. Bobbers were unique to each owner not a mass produced marvel. You were always a racer type guy, bobber type guys are completely different. Here is another V8 Chopper I just bought back from a guy I sold it to many years ago. Its a little smaller than my other one, it still has 400 HP and is fun to ride. Its a 2007 and I'm going to sell it. I just had it detailed in this picture.
