Trip and clock reset

Take all your fuses out and check them with a meter if possible. There is one wire going to the instruments that should remain hot with the key off to hold the memory. Also make sure no one put in those fuses with the little led on top that tells you when they are blown. Those don't work well on our bikes.

I agree.....I would check and reseat all of the fuses several times, make sure your battery connections are clean and tight, check the negative cable connection where it fastens to the engine down near the starter, lastly I would pull the instrument cluster...remove and reseat the connector several times where it plugs into the instruments cluster. There is a rubber boot on it and a little release you have to push to remove the connector. There are multiple wires running to that connector. Save yourself some grief by taping down the rubber seal under the speedometer/instruments panel. Tape the seal to the chrome panel using some electrical tape. It makes it easier to set the panel down on the tank when reassembling.

I am almost for sure you will find it to be your accessory fuse.
The accessory fuse was blown, replaced it turned the key on and it blew again. Must be a short with something on the accessory circuit. I'm not sure of all the devices that are on this circuit. I am assuming the GPS that's on the bike and the heated grips also. Other than that I am not sure what else it could be.

Thanks. As long as I can get somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 to 175 miles on a tank I should be good to go. As soon as I get my trip meter issues worked out, I will be able to gauge this thing better.

What I do I when the bike is new to me, I carry along a small 2 quart gas bottle in a pannier.
I run the motor out of gas and then remember what miles I got total and what I got after the gauge went 0 miles left.
Now you know!
After doing mods to my bike, I re-did this. Simple, dumb, but effective!
BTW my Roadster gets 200/ tank and 20 - 25 after the 0 miles left.

i had a car come in with a coin in the acc plug.
that short can be checked with volt/ohm meter. just attache it to the apply side and ground on ohms and start disconnecting accs. i would start with the heated hand grips also remove any thing in the acc plug. sometimes if some one put a cigarette lighter in the acc port it could ground it out and make it short out.

Thanks. I have heated grips and a GPS. GPS comes on but not the grips. Any idea where on the bike the accessories connect to get power? Hopefully I don't have to pull the tank.

There might be an acc. Euro size plug on the left side below the seat. I had mine installed there per factory suggestion. I didn't like the euro style and dont use it. YOu need a US style adapter that stick out and I was hitting with my legs. Broke it and blew the fuse. That how I knew what your problem might be.

The tank lifts easily out of the way, though if you have the stock air box, the plumbing will obstruct your work well! Idk has a manual in his signature block. My guess is the heated grips are your issue as they have been known to cause problems on the older models.

Not sure if this is the folder to ask this but here goes.
When I shut the bike off, the trip counter and the clock reset back to zero. I just got the bike with 28 thousand on it so I'm not sure of all the little details yet. I find this a bit odd that it does that. Also, how accurate is the fuel gauge on these. I rode 120 miles today and it was showing just under half a tank on the gauge. All help is appreciated.

Ok so I traced the short to the throttle side heated grip wire that was worn through by the throttle cables. Put everything back together and now I have an engine light on. What gives??? I tried turning it off and on a couple of times... no luck!!
