Tried out a new Bonneville 900 today

This thread has struck a chord with me. I used to ride a T140 back in the day and my wife bought me a custom 2007 Bonneville for my 50th from www.Deus.com.au. A fantastic bike which I agree is great for shorter runs. I have also recently bought a Roadster for long haul runs, similar to what some have suggested. The Bonne isn't as comfortable for me for the longer haul. Both are great bikes for their purpose.

Perhaps the one modification that I did right off was upping the countershaft sprocket one tooth. (besides yanking the AI). In stock form, the Boneville range is short legged and the addition of a slightly higher numerical ratio improves the driveability measurably. I know even my '02 790 has plenty of suds to pull an additional tooth, I never dropped back to stock when I installed the sidecar. As a progression, I have ported and bench flowed the head, installed custom cams, bored the CVK's changed the mains and pilots, shimmed the needles and built a custom exhaust, but at the outset, the bike was stock and became a tug with no complaint.

In as much as the late model bikes are FI with faux carburettor bodies replacing what I consider to be the best mixers ever made... Kehin CVK's, pulling the AI may be more involved.

I would also suggest a chain oiler like a Scott and/or Lubman. Though the chain is a sealed 'o' ring type. The chain oiler eliminates and chance of dry links and adds 'nostalgia'.

FBG is getting jealous

bcbatman,

Glad you are enjoying the new Bonny. I too am enjoying the hell of my new twin toy. It feels so **** light and nimble in traffic and I actually hit a fairly decent dirt path on the way home today. The great thing is that these bikes can be picked up at fairly decent price used and what a blast for short runs. Some goodies have started to arrive for the new addition when the Wife isn't looking, so far the fly screen and headlight guard. The air pollution system was in a plastic bag and the holes plugged within a week after I got her home. Next turn signals and taillight changes, or skid pan, or air box elimination, don't matter it's all good.

Nice Scrambler

Britman,
That's a lovely looking bike!

Flip,
I too have indulged in some upgrades on the Bonne:
- Staintune pipes
- Flowed head
- Billet manifolds
- Thruxton cam
- Big bore kit (mainly for the lighter pistons)
- Increased teeth on engine-side sprocket
- Tuned accordingly
- Ikon progressive shocks on rear and springs on front
- Shocks and new tires improve overall steering geometry

Rev's much higher now and improved overall torque and HP. Can't justify any more expense - it is as good as I want it to be now.

Everyone's right - if we aren't careful we will be considered Bonneville renegades!

If wife keeps after me. I may have to sell her. That would be a sad day in Mudville.
Trying to explain why I need two bikes. Reason for the new roadster is for two up with her. We'll see how it works out.

Britman do you have to post pics like that..just when i thought i didn't want another bike ;) that sure is a nice bike
