Since I am, hopefully successfully, in the process of (coming to my senses finally) starting the process of moving back into the world of Triumph I have a couple of questions.

I am hoping to become the happy owner of the new 2014 Rocket III Touring but I vaguely remember a couple of nit picks from before I went the Thunderbird and HD route and they are the ignition switch and the heated grips.

Can any of you more recent buyers/owners of the Touring tell me if the ignition switch problem has gone away for good finally?

And in the past I have heard that some were not too enamored with the Triumph heated grips as they seemed to be pretty flimsy and not too hard to break...has this changed for the better?

With all the "accessories" that are now part of the Touring I will not need to add too much to the new bike but I am very curious about these two items in particular.

Any comments, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

I have an 08 with 20K. never had ignition switch problem. I don't have heated grips

As for the ignition switch being fixed I've heard nothing. But I wouldn't, as they keep me in the dark and feed me **** all the time. I have an 011 R3T and would love to see Triumph go to a six speed trans for us guys in the US who ride on long open roads. If I miss anything from my Street Glide the six speed trans and my stereo system would be it.

I have a 2013 R3T and have had no ignition switch problems. I have had a heated grip that was installed after purchase (Triumph) break. They replaced it under warranty but I am hesitant to use it now for fear of it breaking again.

Congratulations Dennis on regaining your senses. :)
I suspect not much has changed while you've been "unwell". Don't believe the R3T suffers the same problems with the ignition switch because of the single headlight but a light relay is a good idea regardless, if for no other reason than it improves your lighting. As for heated grips, some members, notably Rainman, had huge issues with Triumph ones. Think a better option might be some other type but I don't have any recommendation. No doubt someone will steer you.

Hi Dennis, not sure we've spoken, perhaps I joined after you took a break or perhaps my memory is getting as bad as some say, either way, welcome back. I understand Triumph has upgraded the standard relay so the ignition problem has been significantly reduced however as Canberra recommends upgrading the relays is of benefit for more reasons than just the old problem so worth still considering.

To my limited knowledge, the grips have not changed yet but I may be wrong. Once again as Canberra says there are cheaper and better alternatives if you are happy to go non-Triumph.

I look forward to hearing more about your new bike.

Yeah Dennis, I agree with what others have said. Do the Eastern Beaver fix for the ignition switch, its easy and inexpensive. And stay away from the heated grips. The flimsy plastic part that retains the throttle cable end weakens over time and breaks. Probably has something to do with being heated and cooled over and over.
