Touring Power Loss Mystery Solved

Went the dealer today to ask about the power difference between the standand the touring. The cams are the same parts numbers however, the throttle bodies' part numbers are different. So it appears to be a combo of tune and throttle bodies. And if you are wondering a set of standard Rocket TB's is $2400. And they did not think they would be plug and play.

I couldn't see Triumph putting a tire that was speed rated for 130 mph and just limiting the power and top speed with a tune only.
 
I don't know, but I do know that there are some guys with Tourings that have convinced themselves that all it'll only take is a remap and some exhaust and they are in business.
 
The higher the speed rating on a tire also usually means a stiffer sidewall. Such a tire may give better control (at lower speeds) when used on a very heavy bike that is being ridden two up with luggage. This might be comparable to a 4 or 6 ply sidewall rating on a truck tire. You can put more air in it safely and carry a load.

Or, just put a car tire on it.

Ask those guys what tire are they going to get that wont be ripped by the higher power???

There was a reason to reduce the power.....

Don't forget that since the less wider tire was used (because of the minimizing of the space between the bags to limit the Tourer's width) it will be hard to put a car tire or the regular Rocket tire (Mr. 240) in it's place without some serious modification which could/would result in the Tourer being wider than it's current form.

Now if there is a higher speed rated tire the same size as the current Tourer's tire size then you might be going in the right direction if what Pig9r says about the tune and throttle bodies can be overcome. But at $2,400 for a new set, gonna be costly.
