Tough crowd..

Unfortunately my Harley riding friends don't venture out of the "little Harley dome of their world" either. They tried for awhile to possibly beat the Boss Hoss either from a stop or at some point while riding from a moving start. They found out that was futile so they quickly stopped that and just rightfully chalked it up to the total unfairness of the situation. Then I got the Rocket and once again the same fast for Harley guys tried the same thing but also with the same results. Then they started asking questions. They were amazed to find out it was 140 cu inches stock. They were amazed it had twice the torque and way more horsepower than eventhe biggest CVO Harley had and they were stock. I told them about the Carpenter kit for less money than many of them have trying to add a few cu inches and the 200 plus horsepower those bikes have. Once again they were amazed. I told them the stock bike price, more amazement. How many bought one or want to buy one so far, zero, now it was my turn to be AMAZED.

It was the mid 80's harley became a yuppie status symbol maybe they got sick of how crowded the golf courses were "I dunno". I do a lot of room additions, decks, the bigger side jobs your typical homeowner doesn't want to tackle, anyhow 9 out of 10 have a harley in the garage it's what they do. most of them average 200 miles a year doing the math. I dressed the part in my late teens and early 20's but I also knew I was inviting a fight by my attire so to me it's just embarrassing to see the dorks to old to push their bikes into the garage dress like 1%'s. Harley was always an image bike but in the 80's it went from bad boy toy to rich boy toy.

At least the hardcore gunrunners have plenty of camouflage.

I have had just the opposite reaction. Like I have mentioned before a good friend of mine kept up talking bad about the Rocket. One afternoon I just threw the keys at him and said take it for a spin. One week later he traded his Harley for a Rocket. There is a guy at work who used to own a Harley and is now looking very hard for a Rocket. Both of these people could very easily be classified as die hard Harley types. The main reason why A lot of Harley types are looking around is because of the Twin cam engine. The motor is unreliable and so is the primary. If you ride over 10,000 miles a year it is very expensive bike to keep running. stators and motor compensaters get expensive when you are replacing them every 10,000 to 20,000 miles. Most of the people I know including myself do are on work. The two dealers in Tulsa are a joke. Even if the dealerships had real mechanics the cost of labor on replacing a stator is well over $1,500 dollars. The one common item among Harley riders is most of them do not ride very much at all. The ones who do ride their bikes are getting fed up with the cheap and unreliable parts used in the newer stock Harley's. The screaming eagle motor compensater I bought for my Harley lasted 15,000 miles and is going south. Now I found out that Baker (company based in the U.S.A.) has redesigned and improved the Motor compensater and is asking $499.00 . The screaming chicken compensator is made in CHINA and sells for a lot less. Harley may be great at creating image and promoting sells but The older crowd which bought the bike and really ride that includes myself are fed up with their product.

SONNY those things are a pain in the ass who wants an unreliable bike you dont want to ride the **** things and be stuck on the road we stopped riding with them we tell them where were headed and tell them meet us there for lunch or whatever that way I dont have to work on the things when they break

Sonny, thats a nice looking bike. I've ridden with many Harleys even across country without any breakdowns. Its not fair to imply they break down so often that you can't risk riding to linch with them. I've ridden them from Ca to Sturgis and all the western states as far as Missouri mostly without any breakdowns. I've also had breakdowns on them, they aren't great but they aren't a POS either. They are overpriced but only if you are practical, if you want status you might feel you got it on a Harley even if it aint true.

Wow, this has turned into quite the thread.

So, which one is best 9mm or 45ACP?

bob

WELL DAVE thats thats exactly what we did maybe they didnt break evreytime they showed up but they broke enough to anger the other bike owners they even travel with chase trucks on big rides so dont tell me how many times they break we had enough and they were the only bikes that broke other than a couple of antique 2 strokes from the 60s so save that speech for someone that hasnt spent hours on the side of the road with the HDs and those ****ing POS CHOPPERS they shake parts off like a wet dog shakes of water those things are ****ing junk and thats the best I can say about them

I aint saving the speeches for anyone, if you don't like em don't read em. Sounds like they would have been happier if you did't sit on the side of the road with em. If it was me broke down and I got those vibes from you I'd a told you just to get the f--k out.
