Good man, you're gonna be the first to top speed a 2020 R3

Before you die though, can you find out precisely the rpm at exactly 80mph please :)

I am sorry - I am too much a sissy that I would do this. Especially with a rather new bike.

But today I had the possibility to check - and I have to admit that my impression got me wrong: on my TFC I got 110 km/h at 2.400 rpm:

- this means around 4.900 rpm at the Speed Limit of 222 km/h (I count in some losses caused by friction)
- and based on this about 325 km/h at the max rpm of 7.200

Based on all this I expect 2.800 rpm at 80mph.
 
I think that the top gear ratio is unchanged, so it shouldn't be too surprising. Rather than give an extra high overdrive they just gave you more gear changing to do.

The new Rocket 3 6th gear is much more overdriven than the old Rocket III 5th (0.838 vs 0.964), but there are differences in the primary gear and (based on a photo) torsional damper ratios between the models which negates the additional '6th' gear and makes it effectively the same as the old 5th for cruising rpm.

Bit of a fail by Triumph, quite possibly, you do indeed have more shifting to do, but then again my Rocket revs lower in 5th at 80mph than my Hayabusa does in 6th.

Can you do 80mph (preferably on GPS) and get the rpm from your tachometer?

I've had these calculations done since November 2019, and have been waiting for someone to give us the real top speeds per gear etc!

I’m wanting to see actual top indicated speed. Is it electronically limited?

I’ll ride today but don’t know if I’ll be in a space check it out. I will someday.

Are the new bikes speed limited? I heard they were electronically limited to 135 mph. I saw 139 on the digital speedometer the other day and wondered if was really limited? I also would like to know if the TFC, which I have, is any different from the other two models.

Has anybody run theirs flat out to discover indicated top speed?
Hi all, I've had my TFC up to 138 two weeks ago having grit throw up at me chasing a rapidly accelerating McLaren. It is not a comfortable place to be I will say but there was no chance of it leaving me. Reports on line are very conflicting but just read a secs page saying top speed is limited to 145mph for TFC. Not seen anything yet for R and GT. I currently do 53mph @ 2000 rpm with the red line at 7000rpm.
If they don't limit the speed, the 7000rpm would allow 185.5 mph at the red line. I don't think I'm going to test it!

Come RAA West, if I bring the Panigale and we find a road long and straight enough, we can test the true top speed beyond the indicated...

I'll try when Corona is over - we are not allowed to drive for fun actually. And I need an open highway - I would risk my driving license if I do this on the normal streets, but the highways have no limit...

For me, the top speed ship has kinda sailed. I had a ZZR-1100 that I did 180mph on more than 20 years ago. And even if the Rocket can do 145mph, I’d have been happier doing it on my 1980’s FJ1200. No, for me, I think Ducati had it spot on in the XDiavel advertising - ‘low speed excitement’. And that’s exactly what the Rocket does (and the Diavel twins do) - it’s acceleration, poise, looks - riding experience. There’s an X factor that you just don’t get with more normal bikes, and these things can achieve it below 100mph, which is perfect in today’s regulated environments.
