TomTom Rider

Or you could just get a compass and a map for under $20(£12) and call it a day...

I love my Zumo which I waited and waited and waited for the price to come down. Finally bought it so I could open Andy's (Ogre) file for the Tahoe salvo. Now I wish I had bought it years ago. It is really awesome.
If I owned an airplane I would fly far out over the Pacific and dump my Magellan in the ocean. Cost half as much and caused me a lot of aggravation on several trips when I tried to use it. What a waste.

550 or 660?

I've had the 500 (much the same as the 550) and the 660, and I've found the 660 to be superior in almost every respect.

As for making custom routes, you can do this with the free software called 'Mapsource' issued by Garmin, much the same as the TomTom system.

Gotcha, believe it or not I saw the 660 for even less than the 550, but I assume it usually goes for more.

I tried that. No matter which direction the bike was going, the compass always pointed west once the engine started. It was frustrating having to stop every time I wanted to get a bearing. Holding a flapping map, whilst wearing gloves, at Rocket speeds, is an acquired skill.

Dude, when are we riding? Rode through the plains yesterday, about 110 miles, was nice.

The TomTom Rider 2 is on sale on Amazon.com for $365. really good price.

Thanks, dude. Is that one as good as the Garmin Zumo's, or should I save up and wait?

Unsure as to the Garmins but the TomToms are rather easy to update for FREE ...if you know what i mean....

Updated firmware/software (unofficial) is also available (for free) if you know where to look...
All i'll say is "Bittorent-coughsplutter"....

I used my TomTom Rider V2 for the past couple of years in Europe and found it most useful... until it sent me in a loop at a toll and i had to pay the same girl 3 times... the 4th time she laughed and gave me the proper directions... but i was in Spain so i can't expect their maps to be up to date

I can't offer a comparison as i've only used a TT..

Ha... Great story. I've been to Spain 3 times...love it there...never biked there though, just rode a little rental all over the place. Fish
