Allow me to be more clear here. Here is my tire experience as follows...
  • 2007 Triumph Rocket III Classic - Metzeler's ME 880 Marathon (ran nothing but these)
  • 2014 Triumph Rocket III Roadster - Metzeler's ME880 Marathon and ME 888 Marathon Ultra (strongly preferred the 888s)
  • 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 GT - Avon Chrome and Metzeler ME 888 Marathon Ultra (still preferred the Metzeler's)

I had a 2015 rocket 3 touring with Metzler 8 80s on it and once I got the bridgeStone, excedra Max's on it. It was like a different bike. I love them so I never went back to Metzlers And I have enjoyed the avon cobras on the new bike

My recollection from 2 RIIIs is that I liked how the 880’s handled, particularly when new. Because they were soft. That’s why they wore out quicker. Everyone knew this, which is why people went to Avons or Bridgestones. The 888’s are supposed to last longer.

I've had both on the rear of my 2020 R3R, and I prefer the Avons, however they are hard to find so I have a Metz ready to go on the rear at next change.
BTW I have 20k kms on the rear Avon at the mo and it still has life left in it.

Metzeler USA site shows two options: ME 888 Marathon Ultra, and Cruisetec. Anyone have experience with the Cruisetecs?

Dayum, how? Both myself & a riding friend had completely butchered two full sets (each) of the Avons in our first 20K kms.
I wonder if the generally cooler/wetter weather you'd have would make that much of a difference?

I assume you're asking for the 2.5 Rockets (this forum). Exedra Max- you'd like 'em on this bike too...
