Tire change- what an ordeal

After 11k miles I wore my Metzler down to the belts. I ordered the tire and took the bike down to a local shop to install.

After 30 mins of 3 of them trying to muscle the tire off the rim they gave up and cut it off. Jeez! I had read a couple of posts on here that the tire could be a bit difficult to get off but that was ridiculous. At one point the wheel popped out of the machine they were torquing the tire so much.

They charged me $35, and I tipped the main guy 15 more. I think he earned it.

My local Triumph dealer does it and never mentions any problems.

Simple answer - don't watch. Leave the wheel with them and let them get on with it. It's a method I've found works better as I get older.

Yep, I had posted a couple of videos of how tortuous it can be a while back. Always schedule for a morning tire change so the mech is fresh.

The front tire is fairly easy, it's that rear that's a be-otch. I cat mine off and then tried to force feed a new car tire on, no go. The best method using a tire machine is one that pushes the tire on at the rim/bead. If your local Triumph dealer doesn't have one, there's auto tire shops that do and will charge you less to mount it.

Yeah I watched as the Triumph mechanic removed my front tie and he was *****ing enough just with the front one. When I got my darkside on I didn't watch and when the mechsnic was done he came out smiling with my wheel in hand and asked what's that for, I just said you don't want to know. I know the guy so it was cool he just laughed and said OK. He'll do it for me next time no problem, it's nice to go thru it once the first time then you know what to expect next time.

+1 on the rear change...I stood around and watched the show - F#CK, I'll never try it myself - 2 guys, 1/2 an hour! Brutal, but then I guess we don't have much worry about the bead seperating from the rim - :twisted:
