THE REBIRTH OF NUMBER 74

Question to the herd. Has anyone used Loctite 510 Number 51031 to seal engine casings? The stuff is used by BMW and Volkswagen on their OEM parts. The stuff ain't cheap and was wondering if it is worth the money. Have come to realize getting the mating surfaces super clean is critical. Acetone followed with an Alcohol rinse is required.

Coat Pro of Oklahoma City offers a very good ceramic coating for pipes. I was looking for a high quality coating that reduced heat. They offer a very reasonable price along with better heat reduction. Not bad. Plus the offer a satin black in there powder coat that matches the pipes. So in a nutshell the whole powder coat and ceramic coat will match the frame of the bike. Wow A rocket X that is blacked out in the same color. To bad Triumph screwed that up. Easy fix.

Never used that product but years ago used to paint engine blocks and head castings with Rustoleum, several engine manufactures used that process.

I used Loctite SI 5980 flange sealant between the engine cases as it was to hand to me. Henkel/Loctite seem to have an array of numbers for the same stuff in different markets and it's a rabbit hole of researching equivalents. Anyhoo, my cases seem to be holding up, it's all back together, bike is back on the road and running and changing gear like it's new. Took it for MOT (yearly inspection) yesterday and it's all road legal now. Was off the road for about 8 months I guess over autumn and winter while I worked on that transmission.

Sonny, I replied awhile back ( maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago) that I used what Triumph uses in the factory when they build the engine for the rocket Threebond 1207B. You can find it on amazon for $17.00 or $18.00 a tube. You will use most of the tube to seal the two halves of the engine cases back together. About a 1/16 to 1/8 inch bead is all you need.
