Yamaha finally did it. They put the final nail in the "I want a Royal Star" coffin. I even wrote them a letter last year explaining why I couldn't buy a new one unless they updated the engine and added fuel injection. I know it's coming but there are so many bikes out there that the manufacturers ARE making better I just couldn't buy a "stand on our laurels" design.

Star could have sucked me back in if they had come up with a 1500 to 1700cc V-4 with fuel injection, more power and everything else that's already on the bike. But another year of the same old thing that I've been looking at for 10 years is just too much. No snide comments, after 13 years I still like looking at my wife. If you don't that's your problem.

I'm going to be owning my next bike for 10 years or more and if I bought the LAST YEAR they made the carbed bikes I'd kick myself. So Triumph Rocket III (probably tour) here I come. I'll be looking for a used one at a lesser price but a new one does have it's appeal. I'll start shopping in about 6 months. Wish me luck:kick:

RIIIT vs Star

My dealer was replacing another rear tire and loaned me a Star 1700, Very nice of them, and it made me aware of how superior my bike was. It was a good ride, shifted well, but I questioned the motor size when I returned, as it felt more like a 500. Physical size also made me feel like I was on a minibike. I have dyno-tuned my bike with a Tuneboy, and with 163 lb/ft, it doesn't respect rear tires, but it makes me very happy. It has 40,000 miles on it with few issues, and after riding HD for 30+ years, what a disappointment it is getting on one now. The 110 CI Screaming Eagles with performance mods is NO competion for my 87 octane machine. I highly recommend the RIIIT! Enjoy, Stick

They put my shorts in a twist again. I logged on to their site again to see what they might have done with the other bikes in the line-up. The ONLY thing new in the stable is a "deluxe" version of that god awful Stratoliner. The've added a batwing style fairing with speakers. No top box for it though. And they're STILL putting those ugly plastic 50s chrome trim things on the tank. They started down the wrong path when they thought they needed to change the name and logo for their cruisers, but now they are just getting AFU. It's like telling your alcoholic girlfriend after her fourth DWUI that you can no longer help or care. Yamaha, this is your intervention. Stop now or you will die a slow and painful death!

Hello Triumph, you sexy thing!
