Trash the bike George that sort of failure is totally unacceptable, my bike lost 3pounds of pressure in the front tyre after 33000 miles quite a few years ago and I called Triumph to complain, long story short Triumph sent me three pounds of air by next day air I still have it because they did not include a detailed digram on how to install the air
Blokes i know that have ridden British and American bikes and have gone over to Jappers have told me they miss the occasional troubles ... reckon their bikes are so reliable they are boring. Go figure .. i like the fact there are things to do and every now and then fix on my Triumphs. Still like playing around and modifying them. Realise not everyone that owns bikes thinks like that these days... least thing goes wrong with a bike and they are ready to sell it

Same Reason I love mine to there is always something to tinker with on it
The Jap bikes are boring My ST 1100 Honda did 114,000 km before it gave me something to fix and then it cost a small fortune...... three rivets hold two compontants of the cushdrive on the alternator together but the Alternator is at the back of the engine (north/south V4) and you have to pull the whole rear (swing arm) end out to get to it then the lousy part is not repairable so it gets junked and it cost $900.00 for a new cushdrive
Yup I love the Rocket it is easy to work on.. old school... most of the time
but 30,000 out a light bulb is just not on!! Did you contact Triumph to see if they would cover it under Warranty
I remember many years ago at the RAA11meet in Nashville TN everyone did complain (behind your back) about your excessive use of your indicators(turn signals) so that was probably the start of the serious trouble your bike is now in.
Your very kind offers and support have been greatly appreciated during this time of mechanical sadness for the old "Fat Bottom Girl" but, I am elated to report when I fired her up for a run to McDonald's this am for a big breakfast, the light is working again. I have two theories, either Ernest Angley or Oral Roberts stopped by in the middle of night and laid hands on, or the bike has a little bit of her Lucas heritage starting to surface as she ages. (My favorite Lucas Joke-The Germans were planning on bombing the Lucas factory during WWII, but they couldn't locate it because the lights were on.) I don't care where the miracle came from, I am just glad the crisis is over.....
