So I am sitting here wondering, would it hurt my bike to run with no mufflers? Just dump the exhaust after the O2 sensor into a down-pipe.

I KNOW this is a bad idea (I like that my neighbors enjoy having me in the neighborhood). I probably won't even do it. But would this hurt the bike? Performance? Painfully loud?

It would idle okay, but run like crap...It will be very boggy on take off You would need to modify the fuel map significantly.. My very well worn Jardines annoy my neighbors quite well.. lol

Hey numbnuts dont do it :evil: There did that talk you out of it :roll::D:p

I say to each there own but it will run bad had to mess with you

If you are looking to have a "show bike" and not a "go bike", go for it. It will be good for doing parades maybe.

The sheer noise will be uncomfortable on longer hauls, even though you'll be firing most of it at innocent bystanders (by-drivers?) behind you. I'm not a fan of overly high noise levels, the noise laws were put into place for a reason. There's already lots of talk in national parks in the US about simply banning motorcycles - the noise bothers the wildlife and the visitors both. So why be a part of the problem? If you want more noise, get mufflers that are a bit louder without being douchebag antisocial loud. :)

Because there is still a 14 yearold running part of my brain sometimes. :cool:

Well you need a 20 yo to beat the crap out of him and then get an adult to talk sense to both of them. haha
There's plenty of reasonably priced slip-ons that will give you more than enough noise, better tone, better power and protect your engine.

@Anthony
I must say that when my can got knocked off in a beautiful right hander at RAA I had to ride it a fair distance back to the motel in Montrose.
It was louder, but definitely NOT V-Twin loud. Other than terrible decal popping, it seemed to run pretty good to me.
Why not remove everything back of your header and try it out for awhile.
NOTE: After my forced test in this manner, (mega gratitude to Leigh) my scratched up can went back on the bike to stay until I get some CES!
