T1292006 Sensor, Pressure, Airbox - What doe it do?

2020 TFC #385, 2014 R3 Roadster 230hp (BRUTUS)
I know what this part is - but I dont know how much influence this part has on the tune and the running of the bike.
I have 2 roadsters, 1 has 230hp and airbox intact and the above mentioned part still installed but all airbox plumbing removed - Bike runs great.
2nd Roadster is 250Hp with ALL airbox and plumbing removed and the sensor is still plugged in but just cable tied to a wiring loom - this bike does not run as nice.
All tuned bu the same guy.

THOUGHTS???
 
Atmospheric pressure sensor? To adjust fuel mix with varying altitudes above sea level?

(Or should I say, to always keep mix as lean as possible to humour the greenies....???)


Haven't looked, but I would imagine the sensor is directly wired to the puter... doesn't really have anything to do with the intake plumbing.

It is the MAP sensor. Manifold Absolute Pressure. It measures the air pressure in the airbox, which is a measure of engine load. A bit like the old vacuum port on a carburettor. The ECU uses this, in general, to adjust the amount of fuel injected and the ignition timing.
 
I too often wonder of this after gutting air box it’s a completely different deal inside that box now and the engineers are pretty smart about why things are located where they are. So now that the environment of that sensor changed is it beneficial to the not being leaned out by the puterthumbsup or what? Maybe an alien will opine, with his goggles and lab suit.

Nope. I quote the Service Manual (you made me look it up!! ) Page 11.16 in my copy....

Barometric Pressure sensor - situated beneath the motorcycle seat, in the top of the airbox. It measures atmospheric air pressure. With this information, the amount of fuel per injection is adjusted to suit the prevailing conditions.

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor - situated at the front of the intake duct, above the cam cover, connected to each of the three throttle bodies by equal length tubes. It... provides information to the ECU...at very small throttle openings...to provide..engine load indications to the ECU.

No worries. So I wonder what it is exactly that Mittzy has?????? Barometric or MAP?????

Wonder if they could be the same? Just a sensor to measure pressure up to one bar. Dunno.
 
Mmmm. They are different part numbers and prices.

But the one Mittzy quoted T 129 2006 is the airbox barometric sensor.... as he said.

Don't reckon it could be a factor in the different running of the two bikes tho.....?? The sensors on both bikes are in their intended locations and wired in.

Barometric mate - I found a kink in the map sensor tube that seems to have straightened things out.
