Subaru help wanted

If you are referring to throwing a code when you remove them basically that 2nd o2 sensor just needs to see cleaner air than the first one. Alot of the times you can put a gapper in the hole lifting that sensor up out of the airflow a bit more and it solves that.

Unless the state you live in has emission inspections like we do here in NC. I would fail your cotton side in a New York minute for that spark plug anti-fouler on the down stream HO2S.

Don't know what the whole process is where you are Norm but I would sure find out what I could or couldn't get away with before I broke out the Sawsall on the Subie

I know this is a bike forum but I know some of you go fast guys play with your cars too. I have a 2001 Subaru Forester with a 2.5L NA motor. I plan on modifying the air box by cutting the dirty side off. I thought about fabricating a cold air intake but thought making the motor suck through a long pipe would reduce the affectiveness. I'm also considering cutting out the cats and rewelding the housings once they are out. The lack of tuning devices out there is frustrating. It would be cool if there was something like a dobek system out there where I could adjust the fuel on the fly. The car runs great as is. My goal is not to make it noisier but to have it flow as efficiently as possible. Any help would be appreciated. Love and hugs to you.
Norm, if you got time to mess around with a grocery getter like that you need to ride or start building a rocket engine. Run the subaru until it dies and crush it !!!!!! Says the man up north where its to cold to ride :D

I commute with this car once a week 7 hours each way. Just trying to get a little more out of the 2.5. Its also my daily commuter when it's too cold to ride.

No emissions checks required in my county.

Buddy of mine took his stock exhaust off his srt4 and put a straight 3' exhaust on. Took it and checked emissions with the tailpipe sniffer and passed.

just some info for what it is worth.
in Arizona Phoenix & Tucson they have emission checks and they take a large mirror and look under the vehicle for the cats. late model vehicles / California has downstream o2 sensors and will set a code if they r not working.
having a code will fail the inspection until u get it fixed.
i see trans codes will fail inspection which is a shame to have to spend $3500 to pass the test:(

What I'm thinking about doing is pulling the pipe with the cats out of the car. Cutting the cats out from the top. Rewelding it back together and reinstalling it again with the stock muffler. Pulling the rear O2 sensor and spacing it out with 2 of those plug Fowler preventers.

keep us posted i would like to know if this works and does not set a code.
