Ant,

Should be able to organise myself by 2014 to get there if I get lucky. To many Lady Boys around Ackland St for me, why not combine with the All Brits Rally or another great bike event in Vic?

Cheers
Stephen

For what it is worth my pick would be Portarlington, close to The Great Ocean Road (done it twice and happily do it a dozen more), quiet little town with a great van park which has nice big cabins as well as being right on waters edge, 10 min walk or only a couple mins by bike up to main street with nice pub and great seafood takeaway not sure about restaurants only about 20 min to half an hour from Geelong by road.
Also there is a ferry you can take your bikes on from Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula over to Queenscliff which is not far from Portarlington so those that want come down the coastal route or are going to Phillip Island saves you going thru or anywhere near the Melbourne City region.
Just a suggestion for what it is worth to ponder over

For all you guys who have't been on the great ocean rd recently or ever very overated now lots of 60ks and 80ks zones and very heavily policed . Its still a nice ride but not like the old days . But all that said i would be happy to go down here or anywhere else in vic for the weekend.

Been about 5 years since I last rode the GOR. 3 Rockets .. a V-Rod and a really tuned-up Dyna. Came in from the SA end .. sat on an average 120 to 150kph all the way along. Just outside of Lorne we caught up on a Victoria Police 4x4 .. who got out of our way and actually waved us past. Admittedly it was early on Xmas Eve morning when we went through so just about no-one was out and about. We had a blast !!

Last time I did it march 2012 in the 1 1/2 day break between the International SBK testing and the SBK rd1 at Phillip Island the speed limits were there and there were a few cops but it was still quite enjoyable I would even go so far to say that a Rocket would be a handful thru some of those corners at speed as I was touching down occasionally even at the lower speeds but also the scenery is easier to take in too, it was more enjoyable in some ways
