Speedometer not accurate

People in past discovered you could have one or the other correct. Speedo was optimistic but odometer correct, fix speedo and odometer was off

That's what I've read... but it's tough to wrap my brain around as speed effects distance covered relative to time... or something like that...

Exactly. Someone will know. You nailed the definition. - "speed effects distance covered relative to time."

For what I can work out; Triumph has made the odometer correct but on purpose let the speedo show 8% more than the actual speed to make sure they don't get any lawsuit over speeding fines due to in-accurate speedo's. Car manufactures does the same thing.

So with a built in 8% speed error... that error equals true mileage. Adjust the speed error to zero and you introduce a mileage error... that makes sense. I'm not saying I like it... but it does make sense.

Hummm, the last couple of trips on my 2013, I noticed the odometer was reading "double" the normal distance. "BUT" the speedo is bang on correct. Odometer has been fine until now. Have not made any changes. Weird !!!

I corrected my speedometer years ago using TuneBoy. It took a while to figure out why, at gas stops, when I zeroed my mileometer I had travelled a noticeable distance less than my companions.

I’ve been watching this thread. I ride a 08 and a 2015. Both speedometers are off the same amount. 5 miles/hr. Is close at 55 mph. My GPS is my correct indicator. When I’m Riding with others I just lead using my GPS.

Kind of dumb at least to me anyway. In California you can drive 65 mph on the freeway in most areas around cities. 8% off of 65mph is around 5 mph. So in essence you are 60 mph in the fast lane posted for 65 mph thinking you're driving the speed limit. It's called impeding traffic and yes you can and should get a ticket for being in the fast lane driving 5 mph under the speed limit. Get in the slow lane! The cop cars have radar and their speedo's are calibrated so they know you are going 60 mph even if you don't. Everyone will break their neck trying to get around you. To me that's much worse than driving 5 mph over the speed limit. You can cause an accident going too slow just as much as going to fast or at least cause an accident. The liability is still there Triumph. Just venting.

If you think driving the speed limit in the fast lane is OK, you are part of the problem.
