I have an 2007 Rocket 3 all stock I replaced the plugs about 5000 miles ago it seems like there is a lot of carbon buildup on the plugs. What do you guys think?

Not to mention I have been calculating my MPG and I am getting 26mpg right now, just wanted to add this.

which cylinder is that plug out of?
My '07 runs rich in the number 1,
perfect in the number 2,
and lean in the number 3.
Looks lean because of the color of the carbon.
just my 2 cents worth.

just wondering what mileage others are getting.
My fuel light comes on at about 250 klms. Last week I had 272 on the clock and it took 17.16 litres to fill it. That works out to about 44 MPG, does that compare or have I f*#ked up the calculation somewhere?

272 km=169 miles
17.16 litres=4.65 gal
I calculate 36.34 mpg. You aren't twisting the wick hard enough, BigAl ;)

Do the 2 plugs per cylinder match in colour? they should..
As skip says are all cylinders the same?

Bleached white porcelane seems to indicates lean mixture
If your earth electrode has colour cream to brown is usually ok.
But you really have to give it a good run to get a true reading..

Maybe fault on O2 sensor reading incorrect AFR, you could try good blast ride to clean carbon out of the system if you did lots of low throttle city riding maybe.

just a thought.
some info here.. Reading Spark Plugs Correctly

Just found this one..Spark plug reading

It looks like it runs a bit lean judging by the tip colour. Carbon on the body indicates a bit rich at idle. The only way to get a true plug reading is to do a "plug chop". This was the way to read a plug in the days of carburettors. E.G. for the main jet you ride at full throttle, whip in the clutch and hit the kill switch, coast to a stop and pull the plugs and take a reading. A bit of a pain on modern bikes with the plugs so inaccesible.
