Ah, we're almost neighbors, I first saw the post on my phone, it doesn't show the info under your avatar like it does here on the laptop. Myself and a couple of RAA attendees, (but not members) may be doing a ride around the fingerlakes and maybe to the Adirondacks September 6-8.

I live about 18 miles north of Syracuse (****hole city lol) between Central Square & Brewerton... small town USA (o:

Sounds like you have a nice ride planned. Scenery is nice around the Finger Lakes, but don't forget the pinky up when ya drink your tea thing, lots of libs there abouts LOL.

I rebuilt an Ames in Auburn that burned down years ago, sounds near you. I recognized Solvay because of a company out there, Solvay Iron.

You might be thinking of Solvay Process?

Anyhoo…. I'm way north of Auburn. Home is about 2.5 miles west and a tad north of Oneida Lake, on the Oneida River.

I googled, apparently they are no more...

Sorry, I got Solvay Iron Works mixed up with Solvay Process, aka Allied Chemical, close to the Iron Works. Allied shut down years ago leaving behind a badly polluted Onondaga Lake. Millions and maybe even billions has been spent cleaning up the lake. Onondaga lake is at the north west end of Syracuse. Politicians say it's all nice'n clean now. But during heavy rain storms the city's sewage treatment plant overflows into the lake.... no problem folks, it's clean LOL. Total shame, but glad I'm well away from shidthole Syracuse and its giant cesspool lake.

Yeah, it was 31 years ago, I thought Auburn was North of Syracuse, not West. Only reason I remember how long is that I finished the job and got home at 10:00 on a Friday night, few hours later my wife went into labor with our first born
