Just a question as i haven't got the bike yet. Does the side stand on the new Rocket 3 bolt directly to the alloy engine case the same as the old roadster does? There doesn't appear to be an under frame for the foot pegs etc. to bolt on to as the older Roadster has. Does everything bolt directly to the alloy engine casing?

i dont know the old one, but the new one, looks like is bolting in the engine case directly.... I wont spin the bike on it, I wont leave the stand down when towing the bike...

Thanks for the reply. Yes it looks like it is bolted on to the alloy casing. There has been at least 2 that have snapped off of the case that i have heard of damaging the engine case but they have been hit by the curb and one on a dropped bike in an accident. We just have to not over stress them. Under normal use they seem fine.

The sidestand on this bike does not provide enough lean, sits too straight up.
I have to triple-check every time I walk away from it, since it fell over twice.
I've thought about grinding some of it off.

Did it fall over because of slight incline? Seems odd to me. I love the kickstand angle. Easy.

You sold the X?

I noticed the upright stance immediately upon my first dismount but if I angle the bars to the left full lock it falls into more of an acceptable angle with little chance of a mishap. Sounds like some are not allowing that angle. You may want to discuss with your dealer.

The new Rocket's side stand bracket bolts to the engine with 3-off M10 bolts. Minimum grade 8.8, I would think. No way that is going to break the casing before the side stand pin fails. The pin will be a BS970 grade EN19 (4140), EN24 (4340), or similar, plated. No way that will snap before the side stand does. Any manufacturer using an aluminium side stand must have brass b4lls or is using a good grade for that; either 6061 or 7075. That should bend somewhat, warning its owner, before it breaks. But I do appreciate that people can probably break anything if they try hard enough.

The broken side stands i know of break the aluminium casting on the sump casing not the bolt or stand itself.
