Santa sure was good to me !

Two of my "fun" "Christmas presents from my wife, a three string cigar box slide guitar and a T-shirt to go with it. A friend of mine builds them that are truly works of art but this one from my wife was just for fun. It as a pickup too.

The last slide guitar I had was an old pre-WW II Gibson that I traded for a Winchester 30-30 somewhere along the way.

I thought of you this morning Delaware Rider when I opened the package with the T-shirt.

A 1963 Gibson Les Paul is not a guitar. It is a treasure. Take it if the old man wants you to have it. (even for a price) It would be a pity for someone to end up with it by taking advantage of him or not appreciate what it is. If it is one of the models with the SG body style OMG. 1963 was the last year that the SG body style had the Les Paul endorsement I do believe.

I always yearned to be able to play the guitar , I tried in my late teens to learn but my fingers were so cracked and covered in birdseyes from my work it was impossible .
When I was in first school , the school brass band got to sit on chairs at the front of assembly , whilst all the other kids had to sit crossed legs on the floor . I was most indignant about this , so asked my father for a trumpet . He bought me the most battered , tarnished and bent cornet you ever did see , I couldn't play one single note .
I somehow managed to mime and blag my way into the school band . Twice I managed to sit on those chairs at the front of assembly , where a perfect view could be had up the girls skirts .
Inevitably I was rumbled , and once again relegated to the floor !

A classy move

What? Getting caught having his cornet become a tuba wasn't classy, just testosterone and girls panties working their magic.
The view was a bonus , twas more about not having to sit on the floor , something I thought most demeaning , even as an 8 year old ! How very dare they ?

@Navigator Now that it is morning I did a little research on the 1963 Gibson. If you find he has something that is pretty much original and in good shape and need assistance let me know.

Document his history with the guitar. This would have been a top of the line solid body in its day.

He may have no idea of the value of what he has. I have a cousin in Nashville that is a songwriter. He has a guitar endorsement and can help you find out what you have.

96 years old is late in life and it sure would be nice for him to find out others value something that special to him.
