Rotella Synthetic oil

Hi all, the guy I bought my R3 from ran Rotella synthetic 15w40. Has anyone else used this or heard anything good or bad about it. I read some on the internet and some people think it's good stuff as diesels and motorcycle engines have similar requirements. Let me know what you think. Fred

Here is my take on oil.

First off, I use both Shell Rotella 15-40 and Rotella 5-40 Synthetic. However, I never use either in any of my bikes, simply because automotive oils or heavy truck oils aren't suitable for the operating temperatures and extremes that a motorcycle engine routinely experiences.

Secondly, for the little amount saved over a 10K oil change, why bother using any oil that's not JASO-MA applicable and neither Rotella products are.

I can't speak for the Rotella 5-40 Synthetic, but I have a gallon of Shell Rotella T 15W-40 right in front of me and it clearly states it meets JASO-DH-2 and JASO MA standards. Is there a difference between Rotella and Rotella T? I've used Rotella for years with good results.

I saw that oil today also. Not labled Syn like their other oils were. is that oil OK to use? I'd think so by the MA rating but it was a bit confusing.

It's not a Synthetic but is rated JASO-MA so it will work fine in the correct weight.

Try Wal-Mart . . . they have it in most of their stores. About $9 qt.

Autozone in my area doesn't carry the Mobil 1 4T oil. Maybe I need to ask them whats up with that.[/quotev1g29eb]

Ask your Azone to get it for you or try the local Wally world. Azone carries that oil in their computer system and it is available to the individual stores through their warehouse system. Although it may be hard to get the people in there off their ass long enough to do any thing productive and actually provide any thing that may be confused with customer service. The zone is a real good place to buy jewelry or perfume for you car and very little else, if you want to have some fun go in there and ask the kid at the counter about camshaft indexing.

Be careful also that oils suitable for motorcycle use DO NOT have so called "Friction Modifiers" which is the slippery stuff that makes them work so good in your car, but so poorly on your wet clutch.

Yeah, what he said. Friction modifiers or Energy Conserving are red flags.

I checked a jug of Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic today and just like the Shell Rotella T dino oil it is JASO-DH-2 and JASO MA approved. The local Shucks/OReilly also had Valvoline 10w40 and 20W50 Motorcycle Oil and Castrol 10w40 Motorcycle oil at $3.99 a qt. and they are both also JASO MA approved.
Oddly, I couldn't find any Mobil 1 product there that said it was JASO MA approved.

How about asking for a 30 amp relay. If you don't know what make, model & year of a car that it comes from then good luck.

I found one at a parts house,
O'reilys I think.
Auto zone had one but it had 5 prongs instead of the 4.
O'reilys had the right one.
About $8.00 I think it was.
And they were on the spinning rack,
just pick out the one you need.
