Rocketmouse
.020 Over
Hi All!,
I have been lurking about on this board for some time now, trying to gain as much information and tips as I can about the R3, and planning for when I got one of my own. My plan was to "reward" myself for graduating from college (after far too many years), and ride my shiny new Rocket to my own graduation!
Well, graduation is in about a week and a half, and my present is in the driveway - a brand new 2013 R3R (Phantom Black with the red stripes), and the first one with the stripes and without the limiters I had seen in a stealership (I now know why R3 owners use that term!) here in Southern California.
Since I got it on Friday, I have put about 200 miles on the beast, and here are my first impressions. Warning: my previous bike for MANY years was a 1989 Honda Pacific Coast!
1. The Rocket is BIG - I think it may even generate its own gravity well
2. The Rocket is POWERFUL, even in stock form, and even more so when the secondaries cut in in the lower gears
3. How did they manage to pack that much torque in a bike?!?!? I knew there was a lot, but the bike leaning 10 degrees off vertical when you rev the engine?
4. Rockets don't like speed limits, especially on city streets
5. I do miss my windshield, but I'm not sorry for going with the Roadster since it actually LOOKS like a Triumph (now if I can just find that durned Roadster Screen anywhere!)
6. GSX-R owners are fun to surprise at stoplights, even if you stop accelerating at the speed limit
7. Given the "pokey" nature of my last ride, I have learned new levels of restraint for twisting throttles in my pursuit of keeping the shiny side up
So why Rocketmouse? Disneyland is 3 miles down the street, and as anyone who lives in Anaheim can tell you, if you live here the "mouse" pretty much controls local politics!
I do want to thank all the knowledgable (and sometimes not) members of the group for all the ideas, hints, tips, and warnings that led me to believe the Rocket was for me!
