Thought this might be of interest to you fellow rocket riders.A mate of mine has the latest BMWS1000RR motorbike. For anyone who only takes an interest in Rockets I will briefly say it is a road going racing bike, weighs slightly more than a large havana cigar and puts out as near as dammit 200bhp. So anyway me and him go for a ride and swap bikes! Well this thing is absolutley tiny and the riding position is well I can only describe it as your arms feel like they are so low and very far forward, almost over the front wheel. It has various power settings which start at rain and end up with F******G HELL !
Anyway the gist of this story is when I got back on the rocket it felt faster! Now thats not to say it is because of course it isnt , carrying far more weight and 50 odd bhp less but what I am saying is the useable torque gives the rocket a far more useable and satisfying sense of power and the riding position well it felt like sitting in an old leather armchair!
Oh I forgot to say we went to Brands Hatch racing circuit, parked the bikes together and when we returned guess which bike had a small group looking it over? You guessed it ,me rocketship.
So the moral of this story, all bikers are brothers but there is nothing out there that compares to the Triumph Rocket!
p.s is my mate swapping his 1000RR for a rocket? Nope he thinks it is too big, too heavy and dont corner! He will eat his words when one day someone does the Isle of Man at 130mph on a Rocket3!

Interesting tale. My other ride is a 2010 Aprilia RSV4. Not the top factory hot rod but just below and a good bike for curvy stuff. Most cycle mags have put both the Beemer and the Aprilia as pretty much heads up rides.

I just didn't fit on the Beemer. I'm 6'4" tall and my knees were in the middle of the tank "crease". The Aprilia fits me very well and the bikini fairing puts the wind directly in my chest. There's just the right amount of lift to keep the pressure off my wrists. My neck is a different matter. I have some carbon fiber on her and I think she's about 390 lbs and around 180 HP. That combination is truly exhilarating!!

Quite obviously the bikes were meant for different styles of riding. If I'm on the Aprilia I have on much more aggressive "outer wear" and I'm working on getting the "chicken strips" all the way to the tire edge. I'm not there yet but I'm having fun.

If I'm on the Rocket I'm pretty much in cruiser mode...except that my Rocket has a turbo and has a dyno run of 225 HP. No slouch at all but you want to be in a straight line when you crank her all the way up!!

Either ride it's....BWAAHAAHAA !!

A friend of mine races the BMRR thou on the track, on his dyno it showed 184rwhp
traction control that really works too.
I let him have a go on my R3, he came back grinning from ear to ear
Says he has new respect for us cruisers, front wheel in the air with the rear spinning
nice to see 350hp in the hands of someone who can actually use it properly
(unlike me)

Have had a few V4's in the past, Magna, VMax, Royal Star, and love that engine configuration in general, but I'm still drooling from the pic of your Aprilia--man, that is one beautiful ride! (my Rocket is in the garage and can't hear me saying this)

I had a total knee replacement just before Thanksgiving last year. Left knee. Yesterday was my first ride on the Aprilia since the surgery. Very successful surgery I might ad. I'm still "tight" in the left knee and I used the ride to help "exercise" the knee. I'm not really very fast but I'm learning and having to remember not to ride "over my head". That's actually a pretty good reality but the Aprilia seems to me to be pretty capable and forgiving if your not just a total ass and too far out of shape.
I've ridden the Rocket several times and with the floorboards it's quite comfortable. Hope your bike is not having anything too major being done.

No, I meant the Rocket was in MY garage and wouldn't get pissed at me for my comments about the RSV4. Mine is running great right now-recent mods were the H4 relay kit, ignition relocation and picked up an AGM battery. Got the PC8 fuse block coming in soon from Eastern Beaver to help clean up the wiring situation. Between the gps, heated grips, cruise control, tender and light kit I've got no more room on the batt terminals...
Here's to a full recovery for your knee...most I've ever had done in that area was arthroscopic cleanup of a torn meniscus--really minor compared to your replacement. I just think it's great that those type of surgeries can be done now--years ago your bike riding days might've been over. Or you could be riding a trike or CanAm...

No to a trike for now, although I like the CanAms very well. My wife talks about riding one of them, but that's for another time. After the lottery win.
Thanks for the garage clarification. I'm interested in the electrical block for clean-up purposes. I have lots of stuff hooked to the battery terminals and would welcome alternatives. I'll look into the PC8 option.
Thanks for the good word on the knee replacement. Mine went well because I knew I'd follow doc's instructions as to rehab. Doing great!
