Rocket indicators. Self cancelling?

On the Eisenhower expressway here in Illinois, a turn signal is a sign of weakness

I have 60,000+ miles on the Falcon with the unit sold a New R3 and it works well I need to put one on the other beast!!
 
Without a doubt the turn signals on a 2013 R3T are self cancelling. In a straight line on the freeway they are on for about 15 seconds. If turned on before you stop they will stay on while sitting still and then cancel once you have started moving again.

I have an 08 and they are self canceling on my touring.
 
Ok thanks Bob. Could this be a USA thing or does anyone in UK have a self cancelling Rocket?
 
I was told they are distance not time sensitive when I bought mine. As noted by others the flasher on a R3T is part of the instruments and not serviceable.

More research is needed I see. I will attempt to complete it in a day or so. It was right at 80mph when it took about 14 sec so that makes the distance a little less than 1/4 mile. I will try different speeds, mostly higher for the research.

I wonder if the boys in blue will believe me when I tell them it is for research only and I will NEVER go that fast again.
