There has been a new development. Seems my credit union doesn't want to deal with international checks anymore. They sent me back a couple of checks from Canada. I will contact those people. I guess I will have to use paypal. I have never received payment through paypal. Anyone care to walk me through it ? How do you know where to send the payment ? I looked in help on the paypal website and that left me more confused yet. I'm guessing it's real simple and I'm trying to make it complicated. Fred

P.S. Can we please limit paypal transactions to people outside the us ? The fee's are different and this is already becoming a headache. Anyone in the states please send me a check. Thanks, Fred

It's dead easy Fred. You set up a PayPal account and link it to either an e-mail address or mobile phone number. We enter either of those and the funds go into your account. You have the option of withdrawing the funds or using them for purchases. That just means you have to be prepared to pass on either an e-mail address or phone number for us to use.

The catch is that there are PayPal fees which commercial sellers generally bear (ie they build them into the price). Alternatively, the funds can be paid to you as a "gift", in which case the sender has to pay the fee on top of the amount being transfered. It's not much but it does add up if you have several transactions.

My suggestion to you would be to add the fees to the price because invariably someone will forget to send the money as a gift (it's easy to do), leaving you to cover the fees. If someone then makes an error and sends it as gift by mistake, it will be in your favour!

I find having a PayPal account very convenient and the best (read easiest, quickest and most secure) way to buy things online.

That's where I get confused. I have a paypal account but have only ever used it to buy stuff on eatmebay. What email address do I hand out ?

There should be one linked to the account; the one you enter when you log-on to PayPal. That one.

Thanks for the help. If you were to send money to me via paypal, does it give you a place to write me a message ? If so, is there room to write shirt sizes, screen name, return address etc. ? Fred

Yes it does. First there's a subject line - it defaults to "You've got funds" but you could ask people to change it "Rocket III T's" or whatever you wanted (or not bother).
Then there's a Message box which takes up to 300 characters.
