Roadster ALDL Connector? OBD2??

Just checking out the features of my new R3 Roadster. Under the seat I notice the Com Link plug(ALDL?) to the Triumph Engine Management System. Is that similar to the OBD2 used in late autos? And should the plug/Link not have some sort of cover or cap for this plug? Is there a cap available for it, from Triumph? Part # or source? Thanks for any info!

It's an OBDII connector. A regular code reader can pull codes or do a search on here for TuneEcu or Tuneboy for programs that hack the ECU. There is no cover, they just pack it with dielectric grease.

Tanks for the replies! Since my C4 Corvette came from the factory with an incar ADLD cover/plug(although that was for OBD1), I assume that there is a ADLD plug available from GM that can be used for the OBD2 plug in/on the Triumph Roadster?? Also, if an OBD2 scanner can read some codes off the Roadster ECU - can anything else be done off the Triumph ECU with a regular OBD2 scanner? Cheers!

Rob all you can do is read withthe OBD2 or as I call it the OBGYN plug
You need Tune Boy or the other brand tune ecu. Tune Boy is pricey but they are more advanced when it comes to modifying maps. They were the ground breakers on the Rocket and many other brands.
Of couse not to sound smart assed but since you have a 2011 I would put some miles on her and get used to throwing it around with the power it has (which is plenty) then after a while you can start modifying her. Just a suggestion as it was made to me when I bought my 06 Classic. I put 22,000 miles on with just Tors and cat delete what a blast never did anything but check and change the oil and brake pads, oh and tires.
The Roadster is new and you will see a lot of goddies get developed for her over the next couple years.

OBD2 Roadster Plug issues

Thanks Warp9.9 for your advice! On another totally different subject - I would like to be able to do some small delivery jobs for myself while out on my Roadster- can you or anyone advise me on fitting some bag/bags to attach to the bike or bike seat for occasional use that would be used for picking up the odd groceries or small packges? I don't want anything permanet attached to the R3. ? Cheers!

I use LeatherLyke bags in the "contemporary" style. They can be put on or taken off in seconds. They aren't the best looking, but not bad. They are tough, I usually just put them on the garage floor where they are subject to bicycles, lawn mowers, pets, etc. and they always look as good as new. They are lockable and water proof as well. And they aren't terribly expensive. I even use them kind of like suitcases if I take the bike on a long trip, and just take them off and bring them to the room, or tent, etc..

Hey what is tors i see it in a few post i too will be riding my bike for a while before i do any upgrades which will be triple k&n filters some pipes n a bear claw trim with some kind of tuner tune boy seems to be the fav will see when iam ready

TORS (Triumph Off Road) aftermarket pipes. They open up the airflow a little and somewhat deeper tone. Unfortunately the triumph map runs the bike rich (i believe). So as not to overheat it. Alot have switched to TuneECU because its free except for the $15 cable to connect a laptop to the ODBII connector. I'm sure somebody has a map for the TORS with Triple K&N's.

The tune Triumph installs to go with their exhaust and other aftermarket versions closes the secondary throttle plates more to restrict air flow and richen the mixture. It works the same as slightly closing the choke on your weed whacker ... makes it smoke (the extra fuel/oil mix) and has less power .... same principal.
You are much better off not using the Triumph tune and choosing an aftermarket way to go... PCIII, Tuneboy or TuneECU. These increase fuel delivery rather than choke off air flow to compensate for the lowered back pressure.

Those are the most popular choices in tuning ... you should do your homework and make a choice based on what works best for you.
PCIII is good if you prefer to have a shop do the dyno tuning for you.
TuneBoy if you want to swap tried and tested tunes created by others
TuneECU if you want to tinker with it yourself ... and you should be a mechanic to go this route since there is little support for it at dealerships. TuneECU is free and has good people working with it, it's just that it's new and allows for even the most novice wrench to really screw up a bike.
