Last year a buddy of mine flew to Canada to work on a small three day project. (He's an engineer in the oil industry).
Anyway, he does not get the correct work visa/pass and tells the Canadian immigration official he is there on vacation to visit a friend. The immigration official thought something was up ...so.... he asked my buddy where his "friend" lived. Well he didn't have a clue, only new his place of business and confesses to the immigration official that he is actually there to work. Mr. Immigration thanked my buddy for being honest and then points to the outgoing flights and tells him he has a choice. Either get on the next flight to the US (Destination not relevant) or you can stay here to work and finish your 3 day project, but you cannot come back into the country for 10 years.
He elected to fly back to the states (He travels to Canada a few times a year on business, and the 10 year gig would not be good).
His trip was:
San Francisco to Canada
Canada to New York
New York to Colorado
Colorado to Phoenix
Phoenix to San Francisco
All in about 48 hours
We have gotten a lot of mileage out of him being a dumbass on that one!
