Replacement Battery

Just replaced mine yesterday with the Interstate heavy duty version of the stock battery. It has 310 CCA compared to the Sporpion that has I think around 320. The Interstate battery is called the Cycle Tron and is made by Yuasa. I can tell already that it cranks over alot faster than the old battery even when it was at its best. I went with this battery because we have prime riding weather and it was in stock locally.

tdragger thanks for the input. I'm actually leaning toward the Scorpion for all the reasons you stated. I just wanted to get a feel from the Touring guys since the Rocket Classic guys seem to be sold on the Odyssey PC625. Although one gent made me laugh when he complained he needed to carry the Odyssey charger and extension cord on road trips since normal chargers will hurt his battery!

I bought Harrys old PC625 and charger. It didn't sit on the bottom of tray ecause of lip on tray hitting ribs on battery, so I put a thicker rubber pad and all is well. I had been rididng weekly but lately with work and family it is hit and miss, never fails to start. But like Harry said it doesn't really get cold here.

Has anyone installed an Odyssey PC625 battery in a Rocket Touring model and if so what changes did you need to make to the battery holder. I was reading on the forum about R3 standard bikes needing to make changes but after looking at the battery box and the heavy bracket connecting it I'm not sure it will fit. Also, does the extra height of the battery interfere with the snorkel under the seat?

I have the Odessey installed, with a little work it will fit in the original batteryholder.
I did not notice a lot of extra power. When the temperatures drops the Bike becomes an anwfull bad starter.
What helps is charging the battery ( at the dealer) with a proffessional charger.
I asks myself if there is a battery which starts the bike in low temperatures without any problem.

I just installed a new Scorpion YTX20DHL battery on tdragger's advice. My new OEM battery from October would not start the R3T when temperatures dipped into the 30's. This moring I tried to start the bike after she sat all night in 30 degree temps hooked up to a battery tender and she slowly cranked than quit without firing up. I then installed my new Scorpion battery and the Rocket fired right up and turned over much stronger than my "new" OEM battery on a warm day!

After reading the posts today about batteries, and given that it is about 33 degrees here now, I went out to the garage to see if my Rocket would start (BTW - has a "new" battery that was installed in July...X2Power Battery from BatteriesPlus 325 CCA with BatteryTender connected for the past several days)...and she turned over very slowly a few times and would not start.

So....I just ordered the Scorpion YTX20DHL from BatteryStuff.com for $99 delivered. Will keep the X2 as a backup for warm-weather riding.

Hopefully this battery will be the ONE...the stock Yuasa would not start the bike last winter, replaced it with the X2 in the summer and now it won't start it, so maybe the Scorpion will be the ticket.

24 degrees here this morning. Figured I would try out that new Scorpion battery I installed Saturday. Right out of the box and never hooked a maintainer to it, and she fired right up. I, on the other hand had a little trouble dismounting once I made it to work...brrrrrr!

after 17F overnight, on sunday my 2 year old battery barely turned the engine over. once. had the stock battery 5 years before it failed to perform! paid a ridiculous amount to a dealer for the batt and install because i was stuck.

I ordered the Scorpion battery from Batterystuff.com on Tuesday...and the battery was on my doorstep Thursday (free shipping!). I installed the battery over the weekend and my Rocket cranked right up.

I did not catch when I ordered it that the battery post configuration on the Scorpion is different than on the "normal" R3 battery....instead of typical top-post terminals, the Scorpion has a terminal on top and on the side. This worked out perfect for me, as I have several accessories connected directly to the battery. I connected the main battery cables to the top posts, and all accessories connected to the side posts...easier and cleaner than the stock battery setup. And as TDragger said....battery drops right in.

Very pleased with the battery and the vendor I bought it from. Highly recommend both.
