Main difference is that the ramair has the wire inside (Cant squeeze cleaning agent out - of excess oil for that matter) you might be able to buy spray on filter oil - but I don't even know if there is such a thing.

Well recieved and installed the Ramair Filter. As noted by a few member here, I took my time, read the instructions. Other than trying to access a couple of screws due to tight quarters, everything went well.

Once I got the filter fitted to the throttle bodies, I was able to push them down as far as other parts on the throttle bodies would allow. I then tightend the hose clamps provided by Ramair. Now this is where I'll mention I only tightened each of the three hose clamps tight enough so that they wouldn't move. To be honest that wasn't many turns of the screw.

I followed the instructions for the 12 min tune, no issues their. I then took the beast out for a short run. I have to say I like the little growl you get as you pull on the throttle. Another nice sound is the sound of air being sucked in...

So far so good, the only thing that did happen is a backfire on decel through the throttle bodies. Now this isn't new, this has been happening on rare occasions since I purchased the machine. I'd feel a pop under the seat on decel every now and then. Not quite sure why it happens and since it's not a regular occurrence I'm not sure if it's running a little lean. Maybe when I get the TOR's map done next Tuesday that little problem will disappear.

That little backfire, my bike has done it from day 1, bought new. I can only get it to happen if I sit and rev, release, rev, release, rev, release like little 1 second revs over and over while in neutral so I am fairly certain is has something to do with the stock (N) timing map.


Also, just ordered mine on the 3rd, shipped on the 5th after 2 days of being on "backorder" lol.

As I thought and I get that pop when I do exactly as you described it. I stopped doing those little reves inbetween down shifting and I have not been able to reproduce the pop.

I can get it to happen occasionally when I blip on gear changes.
It's a force of habit - and I risk the 36 year old Guzzi semi-stalling if I stop doing so too.

It never really bothered me as the pop was muffled by the seat but now it comes right out of the Ramair filter, more like a shotgun than a pop. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened....lol

Just received mine yesterday, will be installing today.

So I installed the new RamAir filter Saturday night, did the 12-min tune, and just this morning got to test it out.

Notes on the installation:

• The video walk through was very helpful. Some of the things he found difficult I thought were easy, and vise versa. Definitely use 3mm and 5mm extended Allen keys (not just keys on driver extensions), with and without rounded tips, to make your life easier. And make sure you have a skinny telescoping magnet for when you inevitably drop a washer in the beast.
• There's a vacuum pressure sensor that's secured to part of the intake plenum system with a oversized, threadlocked bolt. The bolt screws into a threaded clip that proceeded to tear apart when I tried to unscrew it. Bloody knuckles and an hour later, I finally got it out (heated with a lighter), only to find it is too large to pass through the P-clip provided by RamAir. Tried to drill that out and the P-clip disintegrated. Maybe I need a gentler touch. No worries, just left it hanging, with the vacuum hose in its original clamp, shouldn't be a problem.
• My main gripe is with how the filter secures to the cylinder intakes. Because the RamAir rubber rings aren't notched internally with a ring, they just sit on the intake inlets (should've snapped a picture). So when you screw down the clamps, if they're not perfectly aligned, they'll act to shove the RamAir unit off the intake. Also, the intake air temp sensor doesn't seem very secure when fitted in the RamAir filter unit. Hopefully the intake suction will help hold everything on, but I'll be checking periodically. I wouldn't run this with the bearclaw off or even modified.
  Edit: Removed and inspected last night. I DO have the new model with the grooves in the rubber attachments to the intake. I reseated and adjusted the hose clamps and got a much better fitment. Total confidence now that it's not going anywhere.
• Installing the crankcase breather filter was a *****. Had to get my neighbor who's a foot shorter and about a hundred pounds lighter to get his baby-sized hands in there.

Notes on this morning's test run:

• Commuting through L.A. traffic, but had some short spots to open the throttle. At idle and cruising below 80 mph there is zero difference in sound between the RamAir and stock filter setups, but keep in mind I wear a full-face helmet. But when you give her some gas, you definitely hear a loud induction snarl from the bearclaw. It's fun, and since there's no noise at cruise, I don't think it'll be annoying. I didn't feel any seat-of-the-pants power/derestriction improvements, but I still have the stock ECU tune and stock exhaust for now (waiting on my LoneLec cable and still debating exhaust options).

When you load a tune with TuneECU it takes a minute. If that's all they do with their tool, that's how long it should take.
