2011 R3R
Hi all,

So after buying , my 2011 R3R, it blew a rectifier out, got a lift back to the place I bought and they fixed it no drama at all, they put a new one in and had to replace a good length of a few wires that had burned due to the problem, long story short we went on our honey moon and on the way home it blew another one, no one can tell me anymore than the one on it may have been to small so it was working to hard, they tested the Ohms of the alternator and it tested fine, I posted on here and got a comment for the ape hanger wiring so I now decided to pull the apes off and check the wiring.

Thank **** I did what am awful lengthen job was done, so now I have to fix all of that PROPERLY and put it all back together so whilst in there I removed the air box (don't need it anymore due to custom air filter assembly I will make up) just a couple of picks to show you guys how its going....

Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated by the way.....

I left my filter box in to use it as storage and to relocate my coolant overflow bottle (in the future)

What sort of custom filter assembly are you making up? There a few different approaches on here and at least one other that's not yet been unveiled. Always good to see something different.
By the way, good to see you found the apparent cause of the reg/rec problem (well done Steve; right on the money).

Not sure if the wiring is the problem for sure yet, but there were about 4 - 5 different join sections in the wiring instead of just one like any normal person would do.. As for the air filter setup, not 100% just yet, but I did see a pic of one were it was just a tube with pod on the end, kinda like that idea, but made out of alloy, might try mod it o the bear claw is not needed anymore also.

Well here's a few for you ponder. The first one's mine. It's a one-off made by Cobba (RIP) former member. The second is legendary - also a one off made by Metcruze. The third one belongs to wiggy - member on here (more pics in his gallery).

All three are exactly what I'm looking for, do you find a better more smooth running engine, more power or anything, have been reading that people have the argument that the stock runs better? not sure how considering on the bottle necks it has, info on size of K&N would be great or model number, do you have any drama turning? sorry for all the questions but i'd like as much info before making something like these.

I initially put that intake on simply because I had it. The guy who made it (Cobba) sadly died after crashing his Rocket so I put it on more as a tribute than anything else. I had been running triple K&Ns with a cut bear claw and was happy with the way they worked and the associated noise (mostly the crickets) didn't really bother me although I could have done without. I put the intake on with the fairly restrictive filter Cobba had fitted and took the bike round the block. Only thing I noticed was the crickets had gone and it seemed a little breathless at 6,000rpm. I replaced the filter, did a 12 minute tune and noticed a big increase in pull right through the rev range. Couldn't be happier.

An important change I did was to get rid of the straight rubber (plumbing) mounts and used the bell mouths out of the stock plenum. This really did seem to make a significant difference to responsiveness. I've also played with the Dobeck settings a little too.

It gets a lot of comments, generally positive, but not all. Some say it looks like a ray gun! I don't really care either way.

The filter is a K&N RR 3003 and it fits perfectly without interfering with turning circle at all. It does come very close to the indicator and I did have to move my driving lights. There's pics in this thread - as well as the full story:

Also some more pics in my gallery. I'm considering changing it for a RG 1001, mainly because there isn't a pre-filter cover that fits the 3003. I have ridden in heavy and light rain without any trouble at all but would be happier with a dry charge cover.
