Reccomendations for Oil R3T. Amsoil?

WELL you dont want to run just any oil if you have a modded Rocket

Agreed. When I said 'factory specs' I was referring to API SH (or higher), JASO MA, Semi or Fully Synthetic. I would think that the more money one was willing to spend on engine modifications, the more money one should consider spending on lubrication.

James,

I used Mobil 1 4T 10W-40 full synthetic and performed my own oil change at 900 kms. Currently have 9000kms on the oil and the bike still shifts smoothly with no indication of oil degredation. Triumph recommends changing every 16,000 kms or yearly.

As GP stated in the previous post, as long as the oil meets Triumph's specs, there should be no issue. You might notice that some oils will cause smoother shifts, less clunking, quieter valve train operation. When you find one that works, stick with it!

For Ontario, stick with a 10W-40 weight.

I believe Triumph specifies that after 500 miles or 800 km's you do the first oil change which is where they dump the semi-synthetic oil and put in full synthetic and for all oil changes afterwards. As for a lightly modded Rocket as mentioned here the regular recommended oil is fine...now if you are into the Carpenter or other turbo, supercharger frame of mind then I would ask them what they recommend.
