Rear rotation noise

Glad its sorted. This is a long story but I'll bore everyone.

One of the most frustrating times of my life was with my old T140 Bonnie (still got it) I had a knocking noise that only occurred when I rode it and got over a certain speed after a rebuild. Wouldn't do it at stationary revving it, even blocking the back wheel up and running through the gears didn't make the noise. Had the gearbox in and out three times fully rebuilt it replaced forth and fifth gears, replaced all the clutch parts then, still made the noise, but only when riding. Got so angry considered riding it till it actually broke but couldn't bring myself to. Was about fit a belt drive unit to it when I realized the problem... I had put an engine mount bolt in the wrong way around and as the motor was loading and the chain lifted slightly and hit the very end of the bolt.

I felt like such a moron, that bolt now sits in view in my garage as a reminder.

Mind you the gearbox and clutch are better than they've ever been in the 25 years I've had that bike so some good came out of it.

These things can be hard to find.

Didn't you say hat you felt and heard no noise rotating the rear wheel when jacked up?
How was this determined?
I put it on my jack and turned the wheel forward and back by hand then tried it in gear while running. No noise. Made the noise while off of it and pushing or sitting on it and riding. Must be the bearing makes noise when weight is on it. It's now fixed but I'm leaving it at the dealer on consignment. Also trying to sell my '07 Yamaha FJR. Whichever sells first I'll keep the other one. Tired of taking care of 2 bikes and could use the room in the garage.

No, that's not bad for a final drive. I was just scanning and saw you said a bearing was the problem and $573 was the cost. Just didn't read it well or completely!

Thanks for the info as I also have recently come up with "that noise".
It comes and goes, but I've found it shows up when things are warmed up after some time out on the road.
Shall keep a close eye on the rear wheel bearings, which were my first thought until I too raised it up and felt/heard nothing.
Sorry to read you are possibly leaving the Rocket fold.
Even sorrier that you feel an 07 FLR is its equal and do not care which sells first!  :p
