So I've noticed that when I first turn the bike on, especially after it's sat for a few minutes after riding for a bit, there is a very loud rattling sound that comes from the engine.
Is this normal, or am I going to have to send the bike in for another month or two?

Mine has been doing it for a few years now. Seems to be coming from front of the engine and sounds almost like a slight rod knock. Quits within a second or two after start and does it mostly after the bike sits for a few days. No idea what causes it, maybe the compression release apparatus?

Are you sure it's coming from the engine?
Next time you hear it, try putting your hand on the front fender just to see if the rattle stops.
The front fender on all the 2.5 Rockets that i've been in contact with, have rattly fenders. I think it's a poor design.

Agreed. I wrapped some Duck Tape® around the tabs on the supports then reinstalled the fender. That resolved the rattle.

It was definitely not from the fender, and I decided to check the oil, even though it isn't that close to needing service according to the manual, and was needing a whole quart of oil. So far it's sounding much better.

It's very important to use the correct procedure when checking the engine oil level.
Do it wrong and the amount in there can be too much or too little....either of which could become a big ticket headache.
