Radiator leaking,,,, fixed

Now at less than a year old and 4,200 miles, the top seam on my radiator has a leak!!!! I hope this is not indicative of times to come!! The top tank seam is seeping when cold just to the left of the fill cap. No it's not a loose cap. It's coming out of the soldered seam. Any one else had this problem?

It's a crap shoot based on what I've read, and my personal experience. You may, or not (if you've a weak constitution), want to read some of my old threads/posts from 3 or 4 years ago. My R3T lived in the shop. I've listed the troubles that thing had many times, and the trouble started on day one. I sold that POS and got a Thunderbird and have never been happier. And, the Thunderbird is MUCH faster. It doesn't have to take a repair break every 1000 miles. ;)

Oh yea,,,,, but the problem is I have to ride my bike one hour to the shop and then figure out how to get a ride home. I'm sure the dealer will want the bike from start to finish. And quite frankly, I don't want any one working on my bike. I do my own stuff. But I'm not paying for a new radiator while the bike is in warranty! POS! I can't believe it!

I'm hoping this will not be my situation. So far,,,,,,I've had no problems. So far,,,,,.;) If it is I will go back to Harley.

**** Dennis, that sucks.

How's your relationship with your dealer? Might he be willing to order a new radiator based on your description of the problem? Then you could pull the old one off and drive down and swap for the new one. That way the dealer avoids the labor of the install and you avoid the hassle having to make two trips and having somebody else work on your bike.

I've got horror stories too...so far over $3600 out of pocket on a bike with only 2000 miles and engine pulled and split TWICE....good luck to you, the radiator trouble sounds like a walk in the park to me.

I busted my radiator when I dropped the bike in a parking lot. My fault so got it sorted myself.

I was 2000km from home so took it to a radiator shop out bush, he couldn't fix so glued the leak for a temporary fix.

When I got home it had started leaking again so pulled the rad. out and took to a local radiator shop. He braised the leak for $44.00, put it back in an no prob's since.

Noticed the radiator is stamped "KTM" logo so must be outsourced to them.

In your situation I would call the dealer and see if he is willing to source a radiator first then replace on warranty when you visit. If he is a good dealer this shouldn't be a problem...

Hey Harry! :D Yea I know Danny Douglas at Douglas Triumph in San Bernardino. I established a "Professional" ;) relationship with him when he did the TORS download. (I knew where that was going) :D

I'd been to his shop eight months prior to buying my bike looking at his new 011 R3T. He was unable to take trades, so I waited. Anyway, he will most likely at the very least, let me ride it there and then back when the radiator gets in. It's a 'no brainier,' as you can see where it is seeping out. It started all in one day!!!! I'm going to borrow my HD tech friends' cooling system pressure checker and make It leak! And yes,,,,Harley has one water cooled bike.
