radiator fan not running

As for telling whether the fan is running, trust me, if it is, you will know.

An update. Conclusion is both the old relay and the new relay were bad.

I test the old relay by energizing it with 12v source across 85 86 .. there was a click, but there was no continuity across 30-87.

The new relay, gave a huge spark when i tried to energize across 85 86 and no click sound. It was consistent with the almost zero ohm reading when i tested 85 86. .. basically short.

Attached the pic of the old relay when i opened it up. All rusted.

I will try to replace the bad new relay or get a different new one from a different supplier which i hope will solve the problem.

And also i tested the fan by shorting 30-87 on the harness side and fan is confirmed working.

If fan works and relay good , next probable culprit is coolant temperature sensor !
I recently had the same problem , I can't speak for your model but on the roadster the sensor is down beside the thermostat housing and requires removal of the throttle bodies and oil tank to replace . Trace the wire from the sensor to the plug and test the resistance of the sensor !

You should show between 200 to 400 ohms when hot . Anywhere outside this range and it's the sensor . Good luck !

If its indeed the sensor problem, would the redlight and temperature indicator on the instrument cluster light up when overheated? Maybe because it triggers at a different temperature I guess?

After I get a new relay I shall report back the outcome.

I had this issue and found the temp sensor had popped out of the rubber boot and wasnt even inside the block

Problem solved.

I cleaned the old relay with contact cleaner and sandpaper. Plugged it back in and its as good as new with fan running when its supposed to.

I should probably keep a standby relay on hand in case another one decides to bail.

If you are living in Dubai....I suspect dust gets into everything......might be a good idea to clean relays on a regular basis.

Was the cooling relay hanging upside down to collect water?

Yes i think it started when the relays were hanging upside down cuz all the rubber grommets holding them were worn out ... and then a combination of dust and water when washing... got into the relay box which is not weatherproof.

In dubai the dust is a daily affair even when its covered and everytime i ride i have to wash it off first.
