We could always go to the event and if it's too crowded leave and go ride. I'm not fond of crowds either.
How about hitting Barbor one day for Triumph then up to Huntsville AL and the space museum then over to Chattanooga TN . Then run across the Cherohala Skyway the Dragon option and finish in Maggy Valley. Just a suggestion.

Pretty Pillion and I have a date each Friday night. We call it Fridate. The rules we apply can be something to think on for RAA. Mt payday is every other Friday and hers is the Fridays between mine. Whoever gets paid decided the restaurant. That restaurant most be a new place. Living south of DC gives us many places to eat at. The main reason we do this is to try something new. If we repeat a restaurant, then the idea is not to eat what we ate last time.
I didn't get to make the last RAA due to work but I like the idea of going places I have not been too on a bike or at all for that matter. I'm still young enough that a 1700 mile trip to go ride with friends is worthwhile.
One concern I have about doing a rolling type event is we get placed in many different locations. I enjoy sitting around a fire at the end of the day and just visiting with everyone. At Mayberry days, we were so strung out over three towns and two States, that I only got to talk with some folks for a few minutes. Thus, I like the idea of staying at one place and riding out from there. Even if we can't have a campfire, we can still gather together and extend our brotherhood over a pint, (or a quart...)

I ride through various parts of West Virginia, something good everywhere. I make the southern coalfields a pilgrimage, for coal is also my livelihood, and I hate to see these people down and out. But I do want to see them.

I agree, a home base, a fire and a place to relax is good.
