The Exedra Maxes that I put on were 71V front and 77V for the rear. I don't have that many miles on them, yet, but overall they are superb. Marty

AHA! It appears you are correct. I got my info on the load rating from SWMOTOTIRE. Evidently they used the rating from the front tire for the rear. Checking Bridgestone's site the 180 70 R16 is indeed rated at 77. That would make the pair the same as the Avon Cobras.

You're right. Big difference though is the Exedra 240 rear is load rated at 86. The load chart I've got ends at 80 which corresponds to 992 lbs, so that fat rear tire can easily carry the load. The 180 on the R3T is the problem.

The weight is shared over two wheels so the load on each tyre is roughly half the weight of the bike. Reckon you're safe with all of the listed brands from that perspective.

Well its time to go tire shopping again. I've tried the Metz and Avon Cobras after the short stint with the OEM Bridgestones that self destructed.

"Since the R3T has a dry weight of 789 lbs, I'm a bit concerned that fully loaded the weight will be substantially more than the tires are rated for. The majority of my riding is at speeds of 65-85 and in higher than average temperatures. Those parameters coupled with the weight issue has me a bit hesitant to try the Exedras. Also, Bridgestone does not list the Rocket in their fitment guide."

From putting mine up on the lift, I have found that the balance point of the Touring is right at the rear of the engine,,,,thus when you are worrying about the tire capacity remember that you can essentially chop that 789 dry weight in half. I think that unless you are haulin around a VERY FAT chick you should be OK. I would like to step mine up to 200 tho, but I haven't found anything yet (at least not in a MC tire, so lets not start that DS sh*t again)

That's a very good point about the tire load rating. I overlooked the point about the rating applying to a single tire of a two tire setup. So you can effectively double the load rating to get the amount of weight the tires are actually rated to carry.

Thus a set of 71 rated tires should be safe up to 1522 lbs. If that's the case, there's quite a safety factor built in to the OEM specs. BTW, I figure that with me, gear, and fluids in the bike, its running about 1060 lbs. ****!!

I'm on my 2nd set of Exedra Max tires on my R3T. 7700 on first rear and 13500 on front. They work great and the price can't be beat.

I got 5100 miles on my metz rear and 7000 on the metz front.

Interesting mileage stats. I tend to always replace them as a set, probably more out of avoiding the hassle of doing it twice. Checking my tires yesterday I noticed that the front tire has worn faster than the rear. I'm getting close to the wear bars on the front and the rear has a fair amount of tread left. Not sure why, nor do I remember if the Avons wore the same or not. Obviously, more burn outs are in order.

Interesting, I got almost 2 fronts to a rear Metz, hard to say exactly, as I seemed to have a nail magnet in the front tire the first year, but guessing similar to mport, about 5000 rear, 8000 front. Avons seem to be wearing much more evenly, near 6000 and both got some life left. I have a brand new set of Metz in the barn I picked up for $100 for the pair from a guy who totaled his R3T before he got to mount them. Once they are done, I will definitely try the Exedra Max.
