R3T heated grips

I was wondering if anyone else out there has had this issue or just me. I bought my 2008 R3T brand new in March 2008. I had the heated grips installed shortly after but after less than 5000 miles the throttle cable broke off the grip and I had to limp home at idle speed. Triumph replaced them under warrenty but just recently, I had the same problem where the cable broke off the plastic in the grip. Now, Triumph is blaming me saying Im over strecthing it or abusing it (which Im doing neither) and wont honor the warrenty. So, I am seeing if anyone else has had this problem or is it just me? The bike has barely 11,000 miles on it and Ive gone through two sets of heated grips already, going on my third, which incidently was cheaper than going back to the original grips, since I did not keep them. (Didnt think I had to).

I have had 2 Triumph warranty replacements for the cheap plastic breaking on the RH heated grip.

The plastic is so cheap and weak they have to be aware of this.

Hey guys....

I don't have an R3Touring nor do I have heated grips but can I make a suggestion. Get the unheated OEM grips and go to Dennis Kirk www.denniskirk.com and look under snowmobiles, sub title heated grips. There are litterally dozens of different combinations and none are over 100 bucks. That's what I'd do and screw the OEM stuff if it is indeed that cheaply made.

I don't ride my Rocket in cold weather. I ride my ADV bike. It has heated grips courtesy of Dennis Kirk.

Do those slip on grips from the site fit the Rocket (and R3T) bars and controls? I didn't see a bar width mentioned.

Got a better idea for you. Kick the heated grips and get heated gloves. I got a synergy jacket, pants liner and gloves for $400. Got three connectors and installed one on my R3T and one on my 1200 Trophy. I stay warm no matter what bike I am on and I didn't have to worry about installing anything but the connectors. Now if I could get some socks that connected to the pants liners for power I would be set.

They fit the KLR which is the same diameter bar as the R3. On another note, I also have a Gerbings heated jacket. gerbings has a lifetime guarantee on workmanship. Very good jacket.

heated grips

hi same problem here in uk, useless plastic broke at 5000 miles, warranty refused, new grip about $90. course i'm an old fart thought it would be brass not plastic.
Possibly made worse by risers requirinbg after market throttle cable

I heard the Gerbings was good. I just ran across the add for the synergy when I had to cancel a trip because I was getting hypothermia and had to turn back. Saw the add and ordered the gear. Gerbings now has a better setup with new thinner wires. If I had to wear the gear more often I would look at them. I only need the heated gear a couple of weeks a year. The heated gloves maybe a couple of months in the morning. With 5 bikes it was just cheaper to get the gear plus it is nice being warm and not bulky.

Thanks for all the input. Im getting new heated grips put on but probably for the last time. Triumph wont cover it under warranty and the dealer is hosing me over, as they wont stand behind me on this. And I will find another dealer, as Im about done with this one. They make a crappy product, wont stand behind it, then blame me when it breaks. Its just cheap plastic. When it breaks again, I will go back to regular grips and use my heated gloves, yes I have them but they are just a pain to use.
