R3T--Fastest Production Touring Bike On Earth?

You're a Rocket III snob - so what else is new?;)

Well, maybe he is ... but I'm not. I traded my first R3T for a K1600GTL. I knew I'd screwed up within the first week. I lived unhappily with the K1600GTL for most of the riding season, and then finally couldn't stand it anymore.

I know I've told the story before, so I won't belabor the point. Suffice it to say that the K1600GTL is a better idea than it is a bike. I traded mine for a new K1300S, and a few months later reacquired another R3T.

As for the Wing ... as someone above who own's both said, they're different animals. For my purposes, the R3T is the hands down winner ... but I can understand why someone else with different goals would come down on the other side.

As for the suggestion that somehow the motor in the Wing is the better motor, or more developable motor, there are no data to support this idea. The Wing's motor may last longer in service ... but it isn't nearly as much fun, and if you get serious about it, the R3T motor can be advanced quite a bit. I've just never understood why anyone would do it. For Touring purposes, the R3T motor is about perfect, at least for my expectations. As usual, YMMV.

The GOLD WING cannot be modified to produce the power that a ROCKET is capable of we have several 270 HP ROCKETS OUT ON THE ROAD and the owners are having a great time touring around and messing with the sport bikers and the Hot Rod cruiser guys

Not to mention that the Wing is "fugly" as are the BMW's, Yamahas, etc. Some folks like a little freakiness in their bike's appearance. I like the strong bold look of R3's. If I want pretty I'll buy a Road King. If I want a manly looking bike I'll keep what I've got.

At the end of the day I can whip the small Harleys with my speedy and the bigger ones with my R3. My dad's touring bike was a BSA and my wife's touring bike is a Bonnie. I rode my speedy around the great lakes (circle tour) maybe the speedy is a touring bike.
