New to this site. Looks like there's a lot of useful info.
To that end, does anyone use any motor oil other than the "filled specifically for Triumph" Mobile? It is rediculously expensive at the dealer.

As a general rule you should use a synthetic that is 4T since the motor oil is also shared among the tranny and clutch. That is also why you shouldn't use regular automotive engine oil, because the additives can cause the clutch to slip.

With 10,000 mile change intervals, a few extra bucks on the correct oil is not that big of an expense.

Welcome to the forum.

I get the Mobil 4T at Auto Zone for $10.50 a qt.
I forget what my dealer charges, it is a lot, but ZERO labor for oil changes.
That's an arrangement I can live with.

I'm a little over 8000 miles on my '09, and used a qt so far.
Is that normal?
No leaks on the garage floor, no other signs of leakage.

I'm at just under 16,000 miles. I alternate between the Mobil 1 (dealer service) and Amsoil (change it myself at 5,000 miles) and haven't used a drop of oil between changes.

Yikes! Haven't experienced ANY oil loss in the piles of miles. I don't recall losing any in the break-in period either! '06 model with recommended synth throughout.

So, how are you guys running your bikes?
I was on steel belts at 3500 with the first tire, got up to 4000 on the second, backing off the throttle. Not as much fun.
On the Darkside now.
Front tire was on cords at 7500 or so.

At 23,000

At 23,000 have not used any oil I use the mobile 1 R4T buy it at Advanced 10.52 a quart
I changed my oil at 5,000 not real sure about the 10,000 mile stretch it has taken a longtime to get used to not changing at 3,000

I wanted to take my bike in early for the 10,000 mile service. Like at maybe 9,000. My dealer didn't want that. Not sure why. He's a man of few words. I didn't ask him about the oil usage. Just figured it was from relatively aggresive riding, for an 800 lb cruiser.
I like cruising the twisties at 4G's, winding to 5+.
I'm still hoping to get in before the spring rush, but mother nature has to help me a little.
Suppose to get up to 35 on Thursday, might melt some of the snow.

Oil

I use Shell Rotella 5W40 Full Synthetic . If it can lube a turbo spinning 100,000 rpms it can lube 6500 rpm engine with no clutch slip. I've used it for serveral years now and many other motorcyclists do also. Go their web page shellrotella.com and check out their forum. It sells for about $5.00 per quart at Wal-Mart.
