According to the Triumph workshop manual the oil should be changed after 500 miles, then 10000, then 20000 and so on.
Thanks, that will save a little money. The dealer failed to mention this when I asked if it was like a car, every 3,000. Since I baught it used there was no owners manual.[/quote:t5pfs6kn]send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you a copy of the Rocket III owners manual, just click on this link...http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=...TgtMjFjYi00ZTg3LWI3ZjItZTE4NmUxOGFmNmMz&hl=en

Enjoy!

jd was working on a record but found the pissweek barstad things could not cope with mqueen fence jumping and t-bone car hopping!

And then their is all the cut down scotmun versions that spin out on corners trashing the winning mods, and then their is the blow em up versions that with nos and turbo just shred the drive or clutch. Now I ask you, what sort of longevity is this??

then you have piss poor riders like me with pefeck versions but the neck and back pain, Dear Lord what a wholly silly arsed bike it is!!

But ride it like a tourer, and get new shocks I reckon unmodified it would go for ever. I cannot beleive the pessimism on this thread!!

Cheers Lads!

There's a bloke in Oz who had a 275,000 kilometer service a couple of months ago.

Really? You must try to find him and invite him to the board! 8) To tell of his experiences...

Kindest regards,

Anyone with 270k on their R3 probably doesn't sit at a computer too often

When I picked my R3 up 5 months ago I met a guy in the service dept. waiting for his R3 who had 70,000 + on his.
27000 miles and I have just had to fit new clutch plates and springs. Replaced the actuator shaft even though it was not too badly worn. All other components were in good shape. Just had its' third oil change from new. It is just about 2 and a half years old. 8)
Maybe a stupid question but isnt the recommended oil change 3000 miles even with synthetic? If this is not correct then I am way over maintaining.[/quote:usfwsie9]

The service manual does indicate 10000 miles intervals for oil changes.

As for my R3T: 14000 miles in 7 months of riding. No issues other than the tire recall. She is one solid bike.

Just broke the 15000 mile mark. I had my engine oil analyzed by Blackstone Labs http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ and everything looked good except iron and aluminum levels were higher than normal but they said that could be due to the motor still breaking in. The next oil change wil be needed to compare. Worth the money to get it checked out and have peace of mind.

One of the Triumph of Windber owners told me that a Rocket engine isn't really broken in until 25000 mi... Where he got that information I don't know..

Mike..

over 20,000 on mine,

I replaced the clutch plates, after a night of intense heads up drag racing ( 5 passes head to head with a stock busa) and it has seen some drag racing prior to that as well

other then minor stuff, no problems...( an ociasional screw loose or something)

rode it all the way to tulsa ok and back from Augusta this summer, doing a SS1000

did the 20,000 miles service myself..
