after doing a little investigation on my r3t up under the right side of the tank and extending up towards the neck I found a metal stick almost looking like a prop on a car hood to hold the hood up its about 8 inches long. Aight this may sound dumb but what is that stick for I almost freaked out when I removed it

You got it... its your tank prop rod, inserts in the threaded bolt hole that holds the tank down.

What ever happen to the thread subtitle "Where's my prop rod"

to hold the tank up or down now I am confused now its a simple answer but I never knew you had to have a rod to hold the tank up at least I am assuming that I have never seen one on any of my other bikes

Unlike most tanks the rocket is hinged ahead of the seat, the screw at the front of the tank can be removed and allow (after removal of the bear claw) the tank to pivot upward for access to spark plugs and lots of other goodies under the tank.

wow now thats good thinking on triumphs part I am sure that will make things easier now I have to do a little more tinkering to see what else I can find thanks

Hey Rooster! You take a screw out of the tab holding the front of the tank down, right? Now that you can "lift" the front of the tank up & get to the "rod" you are speaking of, take it (the rod) out of the holders, insert one end onto the threaded hole the screw came out of and the other into the hole in the tab that is attached to the front of the tank. Vola! An instant tank prop for use for working beneath the tank on all the gadgets you find there.

See ya.

I believe it was "prop wand". In any case, I've not seen the Forum Title in quite some time.

Wildrooster: Mine's bigger than yours is, na nah na nah na :D The bugger is apt to fall down if not secured correctly. Pressure washing under the hood may dislodge it. And don't feel bad about not knowing what it was...I had a hard time finding it when I heard there was such a thing.

I too had the tank loose twice before I found the frekin rod:confused:( Hey ... I always worked from the left side:eek:). There is also a small flat washer under the screw holding the tank down. Hang on to the little sucker otherwise it slips down between the tank and the hold down bracket and will entertain you for several minutes while you use all available tools to extract it. I think they started with the washer in 06, previous models came without the entertainment package.:D
