New to the forum. Last ride was a Ducati Diavel and prior to that a Ducati Foggy. Owned various rice rockets as well.

I am quite taken by the Rocket R3. Just found one locally.

It is a 2022 with 7,000 miles on the odometer. To the eye it looks O.K. I have yet to ride it.

So they are selling it for 13,999. This is in a dealership, not an authorized Triumph dealer but one which carries multiple brands. My concern is the price. I ran a VIN data report. The title is clear, no mention of accidents or other issues.

The report shows mileage of 6 miles, I imagine when first registered.

It states Black Book value (retail) is 18,500 yet the dealer asking only 13,999. Does anybody know if the Black Book value is based on the 6 miles shown when first registered or current value for a 2022 is about 18,500.

Hard to imagine a dealer taking a $4,000 hit on the price. Any thoughts?

Lastly, what specifically should I look for before I purchase the bike. I have heard there was a voluntary recall due to a rear brake issue so I suppose I should make sure this was addressed. Anything else beside smell the oil, check tire condition look for body work damage?

Appreciate the replies.

In my opinion, if it sounds good, runs good, has no sign of a crash with replacement parts, and there are no engine codes it is probably as safe a purchase as any. I'd check the dealer's reputation on Google maps, etc. I wouldn't think a crooked dealer would just lower the price knowing of a problem- why not just keep it higher? I don't think there is much demand for these bikes (which is great and makes us unique) which could account for the low price, but that IS a good price. Do ask about the recall. I bought mine used with 247 miles and Triumph took care of the rear brake MC replacement after I had had it for well over a year, maybe two. I think if you called a Triumph dealership they would confirm that you're also covered- but check.

Appreciate the info. How are you liking your R3?

Love it, man. It's my third Rocket, which tells you something. Started with a Classic, then Roadster, then a 2020 3R. Great bikes- nothing out there like 'em. Hope you get one- if not this one another. Enjoy!

Sound advice!

I think you're correct in your thinking that the book value equates to when it had 6 miles on it (ie new) $18500 equates to about $37,000 NZD which is ballpark for what it would have been new.

Sounds like good buying...the recall isnt a 'Voluntary Recall'..its a recall...google 'Triumph Recalls'...put the vin number in if you have it...you can do this once you have bought it too...the recall will show if your bike has had the updates...if it shows any recalls outstanding the Triumph Dealership will fix it for no charge to you...Triumph pay for this....Has the bike been serviced?..tires ok?...you can check the tread by finding the"TWI' strip on the tire tread...small ones.....personally i run 42psi in the rear and 40psi in the front...there are other things which may surface once you've had a giddyup down the road...suspension can be adjusted to suit your weight so it may feel a bit harsh or it may not depending on what the current owner has adjusted....Good Luck...you will love it im guessing!
