Preferred air pressure in tires?

Have seen this discussed in previous threads. Did a search and can't find what I'm looking for. I have the Avon Cobras front and rear. Am seeking advice on the air pressures tried and true. Effects of variations? Any advice?

I run 42 rear and 38 front on my Metz.

I believe factory is 42/34.

Do you have an R3 Standard/Classic or Touring?

For the Touring Avon recommends 36/44.

Didn't G-man recently post the correct pressures for Avons on standard R3's?

Yes he did. But we were looking for the Touring model pressures.

I just put the Avon Cobra on the front of my classic. When looking for the typical recommended TP the blocks on the tire infront of the PSI letters was smooth, no numbers. What is with that?
